Diana Cook Joins Coaching Staff

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – Head softball coach Tom Cole, in conjunction with the Gardner-Webb athletics department, has announced the hiring of Diana Cook, who will join the staff as a graduate assistant coach.
"I am very excited about Diana Cook," Cole said. "She is an outstanding young lady who will be able to contribute to this team in many ways. She was a talented infielder at Appalachian State and is very knowledgeable relative to skills and strategies. I expect her to be specifically involved with the infield, outfield and hitters, although I intend to use her in every phase of the game. Her personality and character blend in perfectly with this program and staff."
Cook comes to Gardner-Webb after a stellar playing career at Appalachian State. While with the Mountaineers, Cook virtually re-wrote the school's record book.
For a single season, she ranks first in walks, games played and games started while also being etched in the record book in second for runs batted in, third in doubles and in homeruns. On the defensive side, Cook is first in attempts, putouts and double plays.
For her career, she is first in attempts, putouts, double plays turned and walks. Cook is second in at bats, runs scored, games played, games started and homeruns. She also finished her standout career by notching third for career RBI and total bases.
Upon completing her bachelor of science degree in physical education K-12 in Dec. 2007, Cook worked as a math teacher at Harris Road Middle School in Concord, N.C.
Prior to her graduation, Cook was a volunteer assistant coach for the volleyball team at Ashe County H.S.
She also brings a wealth of coaching knowledge to an already strong staff. Cook was a camp counselor from the fall of 2003 through the spring of 2006 at Appalachian State youth softball clinics, instructing beginners to advanced students in softball skills and strategies.
For three summers, she was a volunteer assistant coach for the Cabarrus County Challengers ASA softball team.
She will be working toward a degree in sport science and
pedagogy.
