
Gardner-Webb Announces Naming Of Baseball Field

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. - Gardner-Webb University will host a
celebration to name the baseball field in honor of William H.
Masters on Saturday, Sept. 27 at 12:30 on the baseball field.
Masters and his wife have given a generous gift to enhance the
growth of the Gardner-Webb baseball program.
"We are extremely grateful for Mr. and Mrs. Masters and their
continued support of Gardner-Webb University," said Greg Poe, Major
Gift Officer/Director of Planned Giving. "It is an honor to partner
with Mr. and Mrs. Masters in advancing the goals, values, and
ideals of Gardner-Webb."
Masters was raised in Easley, S.C., where he attended Easley public
schools. He graduated from Easley High School in 1945. After
graduation, he was drafted into the U.S. Army Air Force and served
18 months. Masters graduated from Clemson University in 1952 with a
B.S. in Textile Manufacturing. He spent 38 years in the textile
industry, retiring in 1990 as Division Vice President with the Cone
Mills Corporation in Greensboro, N.C.
Masters played baseball at Easley High School and was a walk on at
Clemson University where he played as a center fielder. He also
played semi-professional baseball.
