
Lady Swimmers Fall 162-126 at Davidson

The Gardner-Webb women's swim program stayed close but was
unable to seal the deal, as it suffered its second consecutive loss
of the 2008-09 season Saturday afternoon, dropping the meet to
Davidson by a 162-126 count.
Starting off the meet for the women, GWU's quartet of Kelly
Gueltig, Tory Bryant, Stepheni Stadnik and Corey Hughey notched a
first-place finish in the 200 medley relay, touching the wall in
1:51.26.
Elizabeth Ketterer fell a bit short of her personal-best in the
1,000 free, as she finished second with a time of 10:35.31.
In the 200 free, Kelly Gueltig took second, touching the wall at
1:57.70. Ketterer came in fifth, two seconds behind Gueltig.
A quartet of Lady Dogs finished one-two-three-four in the 100
back. Hughey led all with a time of 59.78. She was followed by
Bryant, Steadman, and Sellers who came in at 1:00.04, 1:01.30, and
1:02.71 respectively.
Stadnik and Veronica Case both finished in the top-three of the 100
breast. Stadnik came in first-place with a time of 1:08.54, while
Case took third with a time of 1:11.20.
Freshman Lyndsey Roka was the lone Bulldog to place in the 200 fly,
finishing fourth with a time of 2:12.61.
Corey Hughey beat out a trio of Davidson swimmers in the 50 free,
finishing first with a time of 24.07. This marks the second
consecutive 50 free where Hughey has finished at 24.07. She then
followed her 50 free win with a first-place victory in the 100 free
by touching the wall at 53.70.
Bryant and Steadman were able to place first and third in the
women's 200 back. Bryant led all swimmers with a time of 2:07.02,
followed closely by Steadman who touched the wall at 2:11.08.
Stadnik kept the first-place rally going by winning the 200 breast
with a time of 2:29.16. She was followed by Mallory Baxtor who
placed fourth in the event with a time of 2:35.14.
The Bulldogs placed second, fifth, and sixth in the 500 free.
Ketterer led the way for the Dogs as she improved upon her
time from last week by touching the wall at 5:12.22.
Case finished third in the 100 fly with a time of 1:01.37.
Bryant was able to gain another first-place win in the 200 IM with
a time of 2:11.45. Bryant was followed by Steadman who placed
fourth with a time of 2:13.76.
The 200 free relay team took second place after compiling a time of
1:39.78; .01 seconds off first-place. Case, Ketterer, Gueltig and
Stadnik combined for the effort.
The Bulldogs' next meet will come this weekend, January 30-31, at
the College of Charleston.
