GWU's Carrie Long and Jake Didion Both Take Top-Three Finishes at Virginia Tech Invitational

Blacksburg, Va. – Gardner-Webb's Jake Didion and Carrie Long both represented the Bulldogs well on Friday evening, as the two both put up top-three finishes and set new school records for GWU in their respective events at the Virginia Tech Invitational meet in Blacksburg, Virginia.
Long was the first of the two Bulldogs to compete on Friday, as the sophomore turned in a stellar performance in the women's pole vault event. Long took third-place overall in the event, as she cleared the bar at 3.55 meters (11'7.75"), which set a new school record for pole vault indoors, surpassing Kelly Bridges and her own record of 11'5.75" set just last season.
Virginia Tech's Abigail Schaffer took first-place overall with a height of 3.85 meters, while Lisa Birnbaum of Virginia Tech took second clearing the bar at 3.70 meters.
Didion
competed in the men's triple jump event, where the senior took
second-place overall. Didion jumped 15.24 meters (50'0.00"), just
0.13 meters shorter than the first-place finisher Akeem Hardnett of
the University of Tennessee. Didion's jump surpassed his previous
school record of 49'1.75" set in 2008 for the triple jump
event.
Didion's final jump of 15.24 meters was 0.44 meters longer than the third-place finisher Hasheem Halim of Virginia Tech.
The Bulldog men's and women's track and field teams will next be in action on Saturday, January 17, as GWU will compete at the Appalachian Opener meet in Boone, N.C.
