GAME NOTES: Gardner-Webb Opens Big South Season On The Road At VMI Saturday
October 01, 2009 | Football
BOILING SPRINGS - Gardner-Webb opens its Big South Conference
slate on the road for the eighth time in eight seasons Saturday,
and faces a stiff test in the VMI Keydets.
GWU (2-1) can expect a tough, hard-fought game again, as the
Keydets (1-2) are coming off a near upset of top-ranked and
defending national champion Richmond last weekend (38-28), and
annually engage in some of the most competitive games with the
Runnin' Bulldogs.
Three of the last four games in the series have been decided by a
touchdown or less, with the average margin of victory in the
six-game series just 8.5 ppg (since 2003).
Gardner-Webb enjoyed an open date last weekend, taking that time to
recover and regroup after its first loss of the season at NC
State.
This Saturday's game is set for a 1:30 pm kickoff in Foster
Stadium, and will air live on WGWG-FM (88.3) and as part of the Big
South Network's video streaming package.
