GWU Volleyball Hits the Road for Two Big South Matches This Weekend

Boiling Springs, N.C. - The Gardner-Webb volleyball team will look to bounce back from a tough weekend in which the Lady Bulldogs dropped two Big South Conference matches at home.
The Lady Bulldogs (9-13, 2-4 Big South) will have to do it on the
road, as Coach Phillips' squad will travel to Coastal Carolina for
a 7 p.m. match on Friday night, October 16th, and then has to turn
around and take on the Winthrop Lady Eagles in Rock Hill, S.C. on
Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m.
Gardner-Webb who is coming off back-to-back losses to Liberty and
High Point this past weekend, will look to return to its winning
ways this week after starting conference play 2-2.
However, it will not be a tough task as GWU is 1-14 all-time versus
its opponents this week, including having never beaten these two
teams' on their home courts.
Gardner-Webb is 0-3 all-time versus the Lady Chanticleers of
Coastal Carolina, including going 0-2 against Coastal Carolina last
season.
This season the Lady Chanticleers are 9-9 overall and 3-2 in
conference play, and like the Lady Bulldogs, they find themselves
in the middle of the pack in the Big South standings.
Friday night's match at Coastal Carolina is slated to be video
streamed over the Big South Network and can be viewed by going to
www.bigsouthsports.com.
While the Lady Bulldogs are no strangers to the Lady Eagles of
Winthrop, as the two teams have met 11 times since 2001, GWU has no
faired well, posting a 1-10 record over that time. However, the
lone Gardner-Webb win came just last season, as the Lady Bulldogs
defeated Winthrop 3-2 in Paul Porter Arena on September 27th.
Gardner-Webb, who played down in Rock Hill, S.C. earlier this
season at the Wingate Inn Classic, has never defeated the Lady
Eagles in the Winthrop Coliseum.
Winthrop enters play this week at 13-6 overall and is tied for
second in the Big South standings at 5-1 in conference play.
Every week throughout the volleyball season, the Gardner-Webb
athletic media relations' office will produce match notes featuring
the upcoming contests and reviewing the previous week's action.
