October 19, 2009 | Volleyball
Boiling Springs, N.C. - The Gardner-Webb volleyball team will look to stop its current four-match skid this week, as the Lady Bulldogs will have not one, but two home matches over the next five days.
The Lady Bulldogs (9-15, 2-6 Big South) will step out of conference
to play host to USC Upstate on Tuesday night, October 20th, at 7
p.m. Gardner-Webb will then welcome the Radford Highlanders to
Paul Porter Arena in Boiling Springs, N.C. on Friday night, October
23rd, for a Big South Conference showdown at 7 p.m.
Gardner-Webb is in the midst of a four-match losing streak, the
Lady Bulldogs worst streak since starting the season at 0-5.
However, the Lady Bulldogs have five home wins thus far this season
and will look to add to that total this week.
Gardner-Webb is 1-1 all-time versus its former Atlantic Sun
Conference foe USC Upstate since moving to the NCAA Divsion I
level, as the Lady Bulldogs defeated the Spartans 3-2 in its last
meeting back in 2007.
Like Gardner-Webb, USC Upstate is coming off a tough conference
loss this past weekend and will look to rebuild with a win on
Tuesday night. The Spartans are 6-15 overall this season and have
yet to win a true road contest, posting a 0-8 record thus far this
season.
On Friday night, the Lady Bulldogs will begin its second trip
through the Big South Conference, as the Radford Highlanders come
to Boiling Springs, N.C. GWU defeated the Highlanders 3-1 back on
September 9th in Radford, Va., the Lady Bulldogs first conference
win of the season.
The Highlanders are 11-13 overall and 1-6 in conference play
entering this week, as Radford will take on Liberty on Tuesday
night, before squaring off with the Lady Bulldogs on Friday
night.
Every week throughout the volleyball season, the Gardner-Webb
athletic media relations' office will produce match notes featuring
the upcoming contests and reviewing the previous week's action.
