October 26, 2009 | Volleyball
Charlotte, N.C. - Gardner-Webb freshman Molly Rhyne was tabbed the Big South Conference Freshman of the Week, the League announced today.
Rhyne, an outside hitter from Statesville, N.C. averaged 3.57 kills
per set and hit .298 to lead the Lady Bulldogs to a 2-0 record last
week. Against USC Upstate on Oct. 20, Rhyne connected on 10 kills
and came up with nine digs in Gardner-Webb's 3-1 win over the
Spartans. Rhyne continued to stay hot against Big South foe
Radford as she found the floor for 15 kills and hit .387, while
posting 10 digs.
The weekly honor is the first for Rhyne thus far in her career.
However, she is the second Lady Bulldog to receive a Big South
Conference weekly honor this season, as fellow freshman Carolina
Solano was named the Big South Defensive Player of the Week back on
October 5th.
