
Gardner-Webb to Host Liberty and High Point in Big South Volleyball Action This Weekend

Boiling Springs, N.C. - Riding a two-match winning streak into play this week, the Lady Bulldogs will play host to both Liberty and High Point this weekend in Big South Conference volleyball action.
The Lady Bulldogs will welcome the Liberty Flames to Paul Porter
Arena on Friday, October 9, at 7 p.m.
Gardner-Webb has never beaten the Lady Flames of Liberty
University, as the Lady Bulldogs are 0-4 all-time versus its new
conference foes. Last season, these two teams' met three times on
the volleyball court, with one time coming in the 2008 Big South
Conference Championship Tournament. Liberty swept the Lady
Bulldogs 3-0 at Liberty last October, while the Lady Bulldogs
pushed the Lady Flames to a fifth and decisive set at home before
falling 3-2 in early November. In the Big South Tournament in
Asheville, N.C., the Lady Flames blew through the Lady Bulldogs,
winning 3-0 in the first round.
Liberty, who was picked first in the pre-season coaches poll this
season, is 8-7 overall and a perfect 3-0 in conference play heading
into action this week.
On Saturday afternoon, the Lady Bulldogs will wrap up its
five-match home streak, as they will host High Point University at
4 p.m. in Paul Porter Arena.
Gardner-Webb is 2-8 all-time against the High Point Panthers, with
its last win over HPU coming in 2006. Last season, the Lady
Bulldogs fell to High Point 3-0 in both meetings.
High Point enters play this week with a 9-10 overall record and is
0-4 in Big South play.
Every week throughout the 2009 volleyball season, the Gardner-Webb
athletic media relations' office will produce game notes featuring
