
GWU's Wenzel and Scott Earn All-Conference Academic Recognition

Charlotte, N.C. - Gardner-Webb juniors Jason Wenzel and Laura Scott were both recognized for their work in the classroom, as both were named to the 2009 Big South Conference Cross Country All-Academic Teams, while Wenzel was also named the 2009 Big South Cross Country Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
Wenzel has been a solid performer for the Bulldogs this season, as
the junior has faired well in his first season on the GWU cross
country team. At the Western Carolina Open, Wenzel crossed the
finish line in a time of 17:49.10, placing him in the top-25 for
the 5K run. Wenzel turned in a personal best time of 28:59.30 at
the Charlotte Invitational (8K) on October 2nd. In the classroom,
Wenzel holds a perfect 4.00 cumulative grade point average, while
working toward a degree in Economics and Finance.
Fellow junior Laura Scott has been the top-runner of the Lady
Bulldogs in four of the six meets thus far this season for
Gardner-Webb. Scott, who has three top-15 finishes on the season,
has set and reset her personal best time twice this season, first
setting a time of 19:5.00 at the Big South Conference Preview Meet
on September 19th and then resetting it on October 2nd with a time
of 18:50.30 at the Charlotte Invitational. In the classroom, Scott
has a cumulative 3.21 grade point average, while working toward a
degree in Biology.
