November 12, 2009 | Wrestling
Boiling Springs, N.C. - The Gardner-Webb wrestling team got of to a strong start at the Hokie Open last weekend and will look to continue its strong performances this weekend as the Bulldogs will compete in a dual match at Chattanooga on Saturday and then will travel to Chapel Hill, N.C. on Sunday to take part in the ACC Challenge.
Last year, the Bulldogs lost to the Mocs of Chattanooga 42-3 in
dual meet action, with Dustin Porter picking up the lone win of the
match for the Bulldogs at the heavyweight division.
Yet the Bulldogs only have three wrestlers that competed last year
that will see action this weekend with all three with one more year
of experience under their belts. However, Chattanooga is led by
freshman Jake Young who picked up five wins at the Hokie Open to
take first-place in the 174-pound weight class.
The match at Chattanooga will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday.
In the ACC Challenge, the Bulldogs will compete against three
different schools. GWU will take on North Carolina at 12 p.m. and
then will face off with Virginia at 2 p.m. At 4 p.m. the Bulldogs
will do battle with Virginia Tech.
Every week throughout the 2009-10 wrestling season, the
Gardner-Webb athletic media relations' office will produce match
notes featuring the upcoming contests and reviewing the previous
matches.
