Chattanooga Sweeps Through Bulldogs on Saturday

Chattanooga, Tenn. - The Gardner-Webb wrestling team struggled on Saturday, as the Mocs of Chattanooga swept the Bulldogs, winning every match do pick up the 47-0 win.
In the Bulldogs first dual match of the season, Gardner-Webb, who
had a number of grapplers wrestle up a weight class, struggled on
the mat, as Chattanooga picked up four pin falls, a tech fall and
three major decisions on its way to picking up the win.
At 125, freshman Marc Rocha suffered the loss, as he was pinned by
the Mocs Demetrius Johnson at 1:55. Fellow freshman Brett Kostern
was handed an 11-2 loss at 133 to Joshua Sandoval of Chattanooga,
while redshirt-sophomore Kurt Wentink also suffered a fall, losing
to Cody Cleveland at 2:04.
GWU's Ryan Medved lost to his opponent Dean Pavlou of Chattanooga
10-6 at 149, while his brother Alex Medved experienced a pin fall
at 3:59 to Joseph Knox at 157.
The struggles continued for the Bulldogs, as David Pelsang lost to
Brandon Wright of Chattanooga 18-3 at 165, while Dave Sweeny fell
to Jake Young 19-6 at 174.
In the upper weight classes, Blake Sayler fell by pin fall at 184,
while Jonathon Velazquez and Travis Porter both fell at 197 and
285, respectively.
Gardner-Webb will not have long to regroup, as the Bulldogs hit the
mats again tomorrow, Sunday, November 15th, as GWU will compete in
the ACC Challenge in Chapel Hill, N.C. The Bulldogs will do battle
with North Carolina at 12 noon, will square off with Virginia at 2
p.m. and then will take on Virginia Tech at 4 p.m.
