Gardner-Webb Earns #2 Seed In 2009 Big South Conference Women's Soccer Championship; To Face High Point In First Round Thursday Afternoon

CHARLOTTE, NC- The Big South Conference announced today the seeding for the 2009 Big South Conference Championship presented by Musco Sports Lighting, with Gardner-Webb earning the #2 seed after finishing with a 6-3-0 record in league play.
The Lady Bulldogs will face High Point, the tournament's #6 seed, who finished league play with a record of 4-4-1 Thursday afternoon at 4:30 PM at Blackbaud Stadium in Charleston, S.C. The two teams faced each other during the regular season on October 9th at Greene-Harbison Field, with the Lady Bulldogs earning the 1-0 victory.
The winner of the Gardner-Webb/High Point match will face the winner of the Charleston Southern/Radford match Friday evening at 7:00 PM. Gardner-Webb defeated Charleston Southern by a 1-0 score on October 31st, but fell to Radford on October 18th in double overtime by a score of 1-0.
Gardner-Webb's 2009 conference record of 6-3-0 is a vast improvement over last season, in which the Lady Bulldogs went 2-5-2 in league play, which was good enough for the 8th seed of the tournament. Gardner-Webb faced Coastal Carolina in the first round of last year's tournament, and fell by a 3-0 score.
The 2009 Big South Women's Soccer Championship presented by Musco Sports Lighting begins Thursday, Nov. 5 with four matches and concludes with the Championship match on Sunday, Nov. 8. All matches will be video streamed live on the Big South Network, and in-game statistics will be available on www.BigSouthSports.com and www.csusports.com.
