GWU's Alex Medved and Travis Porter Both Pick Up Wins, as Bulldogs Fall to Utah Valley 37-6 on Thursday Night in Greensboro, N.C.

Greensboro, N.C. - Gardner-Webb's Alex Medved and Travis Porter both picked up wins in their respective weight classes on Thursday night, as the Bulldogs fell to Utah Valley University 37-6 in Greensboro, N.C.
After GWU's Ryan Medved dropped an 8-2 decision at 149 to Utah
Valley's Justin Morill to lead off the match, Alex Medved picked up
the win at 157 to tie the team score up at 3-3. The
redshirt-freshman defeated Richard Winger of Utah Valley 11-5.
With the score noted up at 3-3, the Wolverines picked up two
decisions and a major decision over the next three bouts, pulling
out to a lead over the Bulldogs with only five matches left.
At 197, Porter held off Josh Wood of Utah Valley for the 4-1
decision, helping the Bulldogs cut into the Wolverines lead.
Yet in the final four matches, the Bulldogs suffered two pin falls,
a forfeit and a tech fall, as the Utah Valley Wolverines came away
with the 37-6 win.
Gardner-Webb will return to action on Saturday, as a number of
Bulldogs will take part in the 2009 N.C. State Open in Raleigh,
N.C.
