Henley Leads GWU Men To 83-58 Win Over Methodist (N.C.) Saturday Night

BOILING SPRINGS - Josh Henley scored 18 points and grabbed 13
rebounds, and Gardner-Webb shot 62.5 percent in the second half to
defeat Methodist (N.C.), 83-58, Saturday night.
Gardner-Webb (3-0) led just 36-26 at the half, as Methodist (0-3)
shot 47.4 percent in the opening period to hang around. The Runnin'
Bulldogs opened the second half on a decisive, 15-2, spurt that
ended on C.J. Hailey's transition three-pointer that gave the 'Dogs
a 51-28 lead with 16:17 left to play.
Methodist would get no closer than 12 points the rest of the
way.
Henley was 9-for-10 from the floor in the game, and was joined in
double figures by center Auryn MacMillan (14 points, nine
rebounds), Hailey (11 points) and point guard Brian McNair - who
had 11 points and six assists in his first career start. Grayson
Flittner added nine points, six assists and five steals for
Gardner-Webb.
Gardner-Webb dominated the glass, out-rebounding the Division III
Monarchs 40-27 and converting 22 second-chance points. Henley and
MacMillan each had four offensive boards.
Tanner Carnes led Methodist with 12 points and six rebounds,
hitting 5-of-9 shots from the floor. Steven Fulp nailed 3-of-6
shots from long distance to finish with 11 points off the bench for
the Monarchs, who turned the ball over 23 times. Eric Thomas came
off the bench to add nine points, and Bruce Patterson had five in a
reserve role.
Gardner-Webb shot a solid 54.0 percent for the game (34-of-63), but
committed an uncharacteristic 21 turnovers - which led to 22
Methodist markers.
Up next for the Runnin' Bulldogs is a visit to No. 4 North Carolina
on Monday night, November 23, at 7:30 pm. The game will be
televised by Fox Sports Net.
