
New Team Record Set at Georgia Tech Fall Invitational For Gardner-Webb Men's Swim Team

ATLANTA, GA- Freshman Tyler Nuss set a new team record as the Gardner-Webb men's swim team competed this past weekend at the Georgia Tech Fall Invitational, facing tough competition in swimmers from Georgia Tech, Florida State, Florida, Clemson, North Carolina State, and Florida Atlantic University. The team finished in 7th place with 141 points.
Nuss, a freshman from Hamilton, Ohio, set a new team record with his time of 4:43.18 in the 500 yard freestyle. He also reached the finals in the 400 yard IM with a time of 4:14.89 and the 1650 yard freestyle with a time of 17:01.17.
Nuss was one of 15 different Bulldogs who reached the finals at the invitational, led by freshman DJ Hughes who finaled in four events. He finaled in the 100 and 200 yard butterfly, 200 yard IM, and 100 yard freestyle events. Senior Adam Middleton reached the finals in three events, the 100 and 200 yard butterfly and 100 yard backstroke.
Junior Casey Brutus finaled in two events, including a top-10 finish in the 100 yard breaststroke with a time of 58.42. He also reached the finals in the 200 yard breaststroke with a time of 2:11.72.
Also finaling were Tyler Revels in the 100 and 200 yard backstroke, Collin Burchins in the 100 and 200 yard breaststroke, Drew Ellwanger in the 100 and 200 yard breaststroke, Derek Gore in the 200 yard backstroke and 1650 yard freestyle, Matt Leonard in the 100 and 200 yard backstroke, Brody McMorris in the 100 yard breaststroke, Chris Musco in the 200 yard backstroke, Michael Roka in the 1650 yard freestyle, Adam Suggs in the 1650 yard freestyle and 400 yard IM, Saxon Simpson in the 100 and 200 yard backstroke and Samuel Woods in the 100 yard backstroke and 200 yard IM.
The Bulldogs will return to action on January 22nd, 2010 as they host College of Charleston. The two-day meet will take place at the Gardner-Webb Aquatics Center in Boiling Springs, NC.
