
Gardner-Webb Wins Second Straight, Downs Campbell 104-79

The Gardner-Webb women's swim team won its eighth meet Saturday afternoon by downing the Campbell Camels 104-79 in the annual Half/Double Invite at Bost Pool.
The ladies began the meet with the top two times in the 200 Medley Relay. GWU's team of Sarah Steadman, Hillary Leonard, Stepheni Stadnik, and Corey Hughey took first place with a time of 1:50.34, followed by the team of Victoria Bryant, Veronica Case, Rachel Warkentin, and Elizabeth Ketterer who touched the wall at 1:51.34.
Freshman Lyndsey Roka put in a great performance in the 400 fly, finishing first and becoming the fifth fastest swimmer in school history with a time of 4:45.51. Roka was followed by Kelly Learned who placed fourth with a time of 5:08.40, also marking her name at 10th place in the record book.
A trio of Bulldog swimmers placed in the 50 free, finishing two, three, and four for Gardner-Webb. Kelly Gueltig put in the fastest time for the Dogs, coming in second with a time of 25.35. Ketterer and Leonard followed close behind with times of 25.49 and 25.77 respectively.
A new fastest time was recorded in the 50 breast, as Stadnik touched the wall at 30.75 to lead all ladies in the event. Learned also had a good race, finishing fourth and marking her name at sixth all-time in the record book. Case rounded out the record-setting trio with a time of 32.88, good enough for fifth in the event and eighth all-time.
Another record-setting performance took place in the 400 back, with Victoria Bryant touching the wall first in a time of 4:35.08. She is now third all-time in the event. Bryant was followed by Steadman, who place second in the event, with a seventh-place record time of 4:40.80. Ketterer also placed in the record books with a fourth-place time of 4:47.39. Her time is now eighth all-time.
A new fastest time was recorded in the 100 IM as well, as Warkentin finished in a time of 1:01.12 to lead all swimmers. Steadman notched another record, this time tying for second all-time with Taylor Simpson in a time of 1:02.01. Gueltig also set a record-time, touching the wall at 1:03.22, which is fifth fastest all-time.
Hughey was able to notch a first-place finish in the 50 fly with a time of 26.31, which is now the fastest time in school history in the event. Warkentin also placed in the record books with a time of 26.65, which is second fastest behind Hughey.
A trio of Bulldogs finished two, three, and four in the 400 breast. Kiah Bellows led the way for the Dogs, finishing second with a time of 5:23.12. She is now the 10th fastest time holder in the event in school history. She was followed by Mallory Baxtor and Sarah Stokes who finished at 5:26.57 and 5:29.94 respectively.
Hughey is set another record in the 50 back, becoming the second fastest swimmer in school history with a time of 27.87. Bryant also made the list, now holding the seventh fastest time of 28.68.
The Bulldogs were able to place two teams in the last event of the afternoon, the 200 Free Relay. GWU's team of Hughey, Stadnik, and Leonard and Megan Sheets finished with a second-place time of 1:40.79, followed by a third-place finish by the team of Case, Baxtor, and Warkentin and Kristen Sellers.
Gardner-Webb will take a week off to recover and prepare for the CCSA Conference Championships on Feb. 19-21 in Athens, Ga.
