Flittner Named Second-Team All-District By The NABC

BOILING SPRINGS – Junior Grayson Flittner was named
second-team All-District 3 by the National Association of
Basketball Coaches (NABC) on Thursday.
The NABC names All-District teams in 24 districts nationally. The
Big South Conference and Atlantic Sun Conference are each included
in District 3. Members of the All-District teams are eligible for
the NABC All-America team that will be announced later this
month.
Flittner (Sharpsville, Ind. / Tri-Central HS) finished the 2008-09
season as the leading scorer for the Runnin' Bulldogs, averaging
14.5 points, 3.0 rebounds and 3.8 assists per game. The standout
shooter led the team with 72 made three-pointers on the year
(72-of-197) and finished among the Big South leaders by hitting
85.0 percent from the charity stripe (68-of-80), including a streak
of 21-straight made free throws in November.
Flittner endured a tough season on the injury front, missing five
games overall and playing several more games at less than 100
percent throughout the season. He scored a season-high 31 points in
a win at Western Carolina despite a sore knee in December and still
averaged 32.5 minutes per game on the year.
The 6-0, 200-pound guard has made 204 career three-point baskets,
including 179 in the past two seasons. His 204 makes rank second in
GWU history, trailing former Bulldog James Colwell, who made 258
treys from 1998-2002. Flittner has averaged 11.7 points, 2.3
rebounds and 3.0 assists for his career in Boiling Springs, and is
a career 38 percent shooter from long distance. He has also made
189-of-228 career free throws (82.9 percent).
He is one of six players who had at least seven starts who will
return for Gardner-Webb in 2009-2010, along with sophomore forward
Joshua Henley (6.8 ppg, 10.3 rpg), junior center Auryn MacMillan
(9.4 ppg, 5.2 rpg), sophomore wing Jonathan Moore (9.1 ppg, 3.6
rpg), sophomore forward Nate Blank (9.1 ppg, 2.8 rpg) and junior
guard C.J. Hailey (6.3 ppg, 1.5 rpg).
Four of those six players had at least one 20-point scoring game in
2008-09.
