Men's Soccer Set To Open Up Big South Play This Week
September 21, 2009 | Men's Soccer
Boiling Springs, N.C. - With both of its matches from last week washed out due to the heavy rains over the past week, the Gardner-Webb men's soccer team is itching to get back on the field, having suffered its lone loss of the season in its last contest nearly two weeks ago.
The Bulldogs (3-1) will open up its 2009 conference slate this
week, with both games coming on the road. GWU will take on
Presbyterian College on Wednesday night at 7 p.m. in Clinton, S.C.
and then will head north to face off with the Radford Highlanders
on Saturday night at 6 p.m.
Gardner-Webb is 5-11-1 all-time versus the Blue Hose, yet defeated
the Blue Hose at home 4-0 last season. The former South Atlantic
Conference and now Big South Conference foes are no strangers to
one another, as the two teams have faced off on the pitch 17 times
dating back to their first meeting in 1987.
Thus far this season, Presbyterian College is 1-4 and are 1-1 at
home.
GWU is 3-2 all-time against the Radford Highlanders, including a
1-0 win at home a year ago. The two teams' first-ever meeting came
way back in 1989, a 10-0 win by the Highlanders in Radford, Va.
However, since moving to NCAA Division I, the GWU Bulldogs are 3-1
against the Highlanders with the lone loss coming in 2007.
Radford is 2-2-1 thus far this season and are currently 0-0-1 in
conference play having played to a 0-0 draw with the Liberty Flames
last weekend.
Every week throughout the 2009 men's soccer season, the
Gardner-Webb athletic media relations' office will produce game
notes featuring the upcoming contests and reviewing the previous
matches.
