BOILING SPRINGS, NC- The Gardner-Webb women's swim team defeated College of Charleston by a 190-110 score in a two-day meet that took place Friday and Saturday on the campus of Gardner-Webb University.
The weekend meet was highly successful for the Lady Bulldogs, as twelve different swimmers earning victories, with Rachel Warkentin and Corey Hughey leading the way for the team, with each being awarded first place in four events.
On Friday evening, the Lady Bulldogs were victorious in seven events. The team of Sarah Steadman, Corey Hughey, Stepheni Stadnik and Jenna Voelkert were victorious in the 400 yard medley relay with a time of 4:04.92. Katherine Glenn won the 100 yard freestyle with a time of 10:49.86. Rachel Warkentin timed in quickest in the 100 yard breaststroke at 1:07.51, and the 400 yard IM at 4.36.05. Victoria Bryant was victorious in the 100 yard backstroke with a time of 1:02.57. Corey Hughey timed in quickest in the 50 yard freestyle at 24.00. The team of Kim Zachensky, Rachel Warkentin, Jenna Voelkert, and Liz VanHalsema won the 200 yard freestyle relay, timing in at 1:40.04.
Saturday afternoon was another good day for Gardner-Webb as the team timed in fastest in nine events. The team of Stephanie Wild, Kim Zachensky, Corey Hughey and Hillary Leonard won the 200 yard medley relay with a time of 1:51.94. Sarah Steadman won the 200 yard backstroke with a time of 2:09.45. Lizzy Ketterer won the 500 yard freestyle with a time of 5:11.39. Corey Hughey timed in quickest in the 100 yard freestyle at 54.17, and the 100 yard butterfly at 1:00.57. Rachel Warkentin won the 200 yard IM with a time of 2:12.86. Katherine Glenn timed in quickest in the 200 yard freestyle at 1:57.36. Stepheni Stadnik was fastest in the 200 yard breaststroke at 2:29.17. The team of Rachel Warkentin, Kim Zachensky, Sarah Mathis, and Lizzy Ketterer had the fastest time in the 400 yard freestyle relay with a time of 3:57.58.
The Lady Bulldogs will return to action on January 30th as they host Davidson College. The meet is set to take place at 1:00 PM at the Gardner-Webb Aquatics Center.
