GWU's Garcia Posts Eight Saves in the Runnin' Bulldogs 2-0 Win at Liberty

Lynchburg, Va. - The Gardner-Webb men's soccer team picked up its second conference road win of the season on Tuesday night, as junior goalkeeper Adam Garcia posted eight saves in the Runnin' Bulldogs 2-0 win over Liberty in Lynchburg, Va.
In the first half, the Liberty Flames outshot the Runnin' Bulldogs 8-2, however, GWU's Garcia was strong in goal for the visitors picking up three saves and holding the home team off the scoreboard.
It was the Runnin' Bulldogs who took a 1-0 halftime lead, as redshirt-sophomore defender Jon Ole Reinhardsen capitalized on only GWU's second shot of the match. As the two teams battled for the ball in front of the goal, Reinhardsen came away with it and connected on his second goal of the season to put Gardner-Webb up 1-0 in the 44th minute.
Gardner-Webb did not take long to score its second goal, as a little less than two minutes into the second half senior Romeo Kabanda tracked down a loose ball in the midfield and fired off a shot 25 yards out from the left side that sailed past Liberty's keeper Paul Gilbert and into the back of the goal in the 47th minute to give GWU a 2-0 lead.
With a 2-0 lead, the GWU defense stood strong against a Liberty offensive attack that posted 12 shots in the final 43 minutes of play.
Liberty came close to getting on the scoreboard in the second half as the Flames saw a Greg White header go off the post in the 62nd minute and then a Phillip Aseweh header do the same in the 67th minute. However, Garcia was dominant in goal for GWU posting five key saves in the second half to help lead the Runnin' Bulldogs to a 2-0 win.
Garcia picked up eight total saves in his fifth shutout victory of the season, as the Runnin' Bulldogs improved to 3-2 in the Big South with the conference road win.
Kabanda's goal was his fourth of the season, while Reinhardsen's goal, which proved to be the game winner, was his second on the year.
The Runnin' Bulldogs were outshot 20-8 by Liberty in the match; however, Gardner-Webb tallied eight saves to the Flames' two in the win.
Gardner-Webb (5-8, 3-2 Big South) will step out of conference play for the final time this Friday night, as the Runnin' Bulldogs will host the Spartans of UNC Greensboro at 7 p.m. at Greene-Harbison Field in Boiling Springs, N.C.
Friday night's match will be Senior Night for the men's soccer team as part of the weekend's Homecoming Festivities.
Liberty will also return to the pitch on Friday night, as the Flames will host NAIA member Southern Virginia at 7 p.m.
