GWU's Reinhardsen, Wrobel, Kabanda and Davis All Receive Big South Conference Honors
November 10, 2010 | Men's Soccer
Charlotte, N.C. - The Runnin' Bulldogs men's soccer team had four players receive Big South Men's Soccer All-Conference honors announced by the League office today.
Redshirt-sophomore Jon Ole Reinhardsen was named as a Big South First-Team All-Conference defender. This season, Reinhardsen stepped into the roll of the defensive captain this season, filling the void left by departing senior Jordan Gaines in the middle of the defensive third backfield. Reinhardsen, who was a second-team all-conference selection last year, has led a GWU defense that has posted six shutouts thus far this season, four of which have come in Big South Conference play. Reinhardsen, who has played in and started all 17 games this season, has tallied two goals on the year, a game-winning goal at Liberty and the lone goal in a loss versus Lipscomb early in the season.
While, Reinhardsen was the lone Runnin' Bulldog to receive first-team recognition, freshman Nicolas Wrobel and senior Romeo Kabanda were each named to the Second-Team All-Conference Team.
Wrobel, a freshman from Berlin, Germany, was not only named a Second-Team All-Conference forward, but he was also named to the All-Freshman Team. Wrobel has made an immediate impact his freshman season, as the forward leads the team with nine goals, which ranks him tied for fourth in the Big South. Wrobel has posted a stellar 66.7 shots on goal percentage and has accounted for three game-winning goals thus far this season, which is tied for third in the conference. In fact, Wrobel has scored in five of the seven GWU wins thus far this season, including tallying a goal and an assist in the win at UNCA and the home win versus VMI. Wrobel has played in every game this season for GWU and has totaled a team-high 21 points, which is tied for fifth overall in the conference.
Kabanda, who joined Wrobel on the Second-Team All-Conference Team as a midfielder, was also named to the Big South Conference All-Academic Team. In the classroom, Kabanda has posted a 3.8605 cumulative grade point average in Sports Management while at GWU. On the field this season, the Uganda native leads the team with five assists and is tied for second on the team with four goals. Kabanda, who is second on the team with 13 points, is tied for sixth in the conference in assists on the year. Kabanda, who was a second-team all-conference selection last year, has posted a .369 shots on goal percentage this year and has also posted two game-winning goals which came in the wins versus USC Upstate and at UNCA.
Joining Wrobel on the All-Freshman Team was forward Chris Davis, who is second on the team in goals with four and third on the team in points with nine. Davis has recorded a .543 shots on goal percentage during his first year at GWU. Davis scored in his very first game this season, a loss at Belmont, and then scored the lone goal in the loss at
Appalachian State. Davis also posted the game-winning goal in the win over Radford and scored in GWU's 3-0 shutout of Presbyterian College.
The Runnin' Bulldogs will enter the 2010 Big South Men's Soccer Championship as the No. 3 seed and will face off with the Winthrop Eagles at 12 p.m. noon eastern time on Thursday, November 11, in High Point, N.C.
