
Bulldogs Have Strong Showings at 2010 Tiger Paw Invitational

Clemson, S.C. - The Gardner-Webb men's and women's indoor track and field teams had a number of strong performances at the 2010 Tiger Paw Invitational, highlighted by sophomore Nick Kelly's record setting performance in the 3000 meter run.
Kelly's performance in the 3000 meter run, crossing the finish line
in a GWU record time of 8:35.36, which was good enough for
third-place overall, highlighted the two-day meet for the Bulldogs
this weekend in Clemson, S.C.
Also picking up a top-10 finish on the men's side was senior Paul
Steinke with his third-place finish in the 400 meter dash with a
time of 49.91 and freshman Josiah Stanton-Brooks in the 800 meter
run with his personal best time of 1:56.12.
The 4x400 meter relay team comprised of Evan Brusich, Codi Merritt,
Johnathan Rucker and Paul Steinke turned in a fourth-place finish
with a time of 3:23.70, while redshirt-sophomore Christoph
Hutschalik took nine-place in the weight throw event with his throw
of 16.57 meters.
Gardner-Webb's Rucker just missed out on the top-10 in the 60 meter
hurdle preliminaries, crossing the finish line in 11th-place with a
time of 8.31, while Mike McPherson also took 11th-place in the shot
put with a distance of 14.27 meters.
The men's team also set a number of personal records over the
event, as including Kelly's 3000 meter time and Stanton-Brooks'
time in the 800 meter run, Gardner-Webb set seven new personal
records.
GWU freshman Bo Miller set a new personal best time in the 60 meter
dash (7.12) and in the 200 meter dash (23.19), while fellow
freshman Chase Fuller set a new personal record in the 60 meter
dash (7.38) as well.
Sophomore Travis Rogers set two personal records as well at the
meet, turning in a personal best throw of 13.30 meters in the shot
put and a personal record throw of 15.41 meters in the weight
throw.
On the women's side, the Lady Bulldogs set a slew of personal
records over the two day event, picking up five top-15 finishes
along the way.
GWU's Sarah Herd picked up a 10th-place finish in the high jump
event, clearing the bar at 1.60 meters, while freshman Ashlei
Alexander took 11th in the shot put with a toss of 12.31
meters.
Freshman Ivana Hughes finished 12th overall in the 800 meter run
with a personal best time of 2:21.86, while junior Laura Scott
crossed the finish line in 12th-place with her personal best time
of 10:39.85 in the 3000 meter run.
The women's 4x400 meter relay team of Hughes, Cherish Richardson,
Bethany Wright and Ariel Zimmerman also placed 12th, turning in a
time of 4:09.52.
Zimmerman just missed out of the top-15 in the 1 mile run, crossing
the finish line in 16th with a personal best time of 5:17.59, while
fellow freshman Leah Steinke also picked up a 16th-place finish, as
she turned in a personal best time of 2:22.69 in the 800 meter
run.
In the 3000 meter run, junior Diana Palka picked up a 16th-place
finish with a personal best time of 10:48.56, while fellow
classmate Lia Hudak also had a personal best time of 11:55.60 in
the event.
Senior Brie Thompson turned in a personal best in the weight throw
event, turning in a long distance of 11.96 meters.
GWU's Aliegha Brigham set a personal best in the 60 meter dash with
her time of 8.15, while Elisabeth Sawyer turned in a personal best
time of 5:44.99 in the 1 mile run.
Richardson had a personal best time of 2:24.28 in the 800 meter
run, while Katy Milton set a personal record in the 200 meter dash
with a time of 27.80.
The Bulldogs will return to action later this week, as Gardner-Webb
will compete at the Appalachian Mountain Open in Boone, N.C. on
February 18.
