
Gardner-Webb Men's and Women's Swimming Both In Third Place Following First Day of CCSA Championships

KNOXVILLE, TN - After day one of the 2010 Coastal Collegiate Swimming Association (CCSA) Championships in Knoxville, Tenn., Florida Gulf Coast's women's swimming is in the lead with 232 points, Davidson is in second with 218 points and Gardner-Webb is third at 160.5. On the men's side, Davidson is first with 276 points, College of Charleston is in second at 254 points and Gardner-Webb is right behind in the third spot at 205.
For the women's team, in the 200 yard freestyle relay, the team of Elizabeth Charter, Sarah Steadman, Kristen Sellers, and Corey Hughey finished in second overall, timing in at 1:34.16. In the 500 yard freestyle, Elizabeth Ketterer timed in at eighth place with a time of 5:05.39. In the 200 yard IM, Rachel Warkentin placed in third overall with a time of 2:04.89. In the 50 yard freestyle, Corey Hughey placed in second with a time of 22.96 and Elizabeth Charter finished in fourth with a time of 23.07. The Lady Bulldogs timed in first in the 400 yard medley relay, with the team of Corey Hughey, Kim Zachensky, Rachel Warkentin, and Elizabeth Charter timing in at 3:42.32, setting a new CCSA record in the process.
For the men's team, in the 200 yard freestyle relay, the team of Kevin Koenig, George Partin, Collin Burchins, and DJ Hughes finishing third with a time of 1:23.45. In the 500 yard freestyle, Tyler Nuss timed in at 4:40.00 to finish fourth overall, and Chris Musco and Adam Suggs finished in seventh and eighth, with times of 4:45.86 and 4:45.88 respectively. In the 200 yard IM, Steven Caudill finished fourth with a time of 1:52.25, Collin Burchins finished sixth with a time of 1:55.94, and Samuel Woods finished seventh with a time of 1:56.08. In the 50 yard freestyle, Kevin Koenig timed in at third place with a time of 20.91. In the 400 yard medley relay, the team of Samuel Woods, Collin Burchins, Steven Caudill, and George Partin finished third overall with a time of 3:22.82.
The 2010 CCSA Championships resume Friday beginning with preliminaries at 10 a.m. and finals starting at 6 p.m. The events being contested on Day 2 include 200 medley relay, 400 individual medley, 100 butterfly, 200 freestyle, 100 breaststroke, 100 backstroke, men's 1-meter diving and 800 freestyle relay.
