
GWU Drops Five-Set Heartbreaker to Radford

RADFORD, Va. — The Gardner-Webb volleyball team battled through five sets against Radford, but the Runnin' Bulldogs came up short in a 3-2 (23-25, 28-26, 21-25, 25-18, 8-15) contest on Saturday. Gardner-Webb moves to 11-8 overall and 2-3 in Big South play, while Radford improves to 9-10 overall and 3-2 in conference action.
Parker Lafontaine led the Runnin' Bulldogs with 12 kills while hitting an impressive .579. Emma Kerwin and Sarina Galyean each added 10 kills. Olivia Lefebvre paced the offense with 26 assists, followed by Aleina Manaois with 21 assists.
Ella Moss led Gardner-Webb defensively with 19 digs, finishing as one of four Runnin' Bulldogs to record double-digit digs. Lefebvre also contributed two service aces.
Gardner-Webb opened the match with a narrow 25-23 loss in the first set before responding in a tightly contested second frame. The Runnin' Bulldogs edged Radford 28-26 to even the match at one set apiece.
The teams continued to trade sets, with Radford taking the third 25-21 before Gardner-Webb answered with a strong fourth-set performance. The Runnin' Bulldogs hit .406 in the frame, earning a 25-18 victory to force a decisive fifth set.
Radford controlled the final frame, earning a 15-8 victory to secure the match.
Gardner-Webb returns home Friday, Oct. 16, to host USC Upstate for Domestic Violence Awareness Night. First serve is scheduled for 6 p.m.
