
Bulldogs Wrap Up Season at Last Chance Meet This Past Weekend

ATHENS, GA - The Gardner-Webb swim teams competed this past weekend in the 2010 Bulldog Invitational, a last chance meet for individuals to qualify or improve their position for the upcoming NCAA Championships. The meet was hosted by the University of Georgia, at the Gabrielsen Natatorium.
Two new team records were set, while three times were designated as NCAA B-cut times. Tyler Nuss set a team record in the men's 500 yard freestyle event, timing in at 4:30.40, and Corey Hughey set a new team record in the women's 50 yard backstroke with a time of 25.48. The NCAA B-cut times were set by Kim Zachensky in the women's 100 yard breaststroke at 1:02.34, Hughey in the 100 yard backstroke at 55.07, and the team of Hughey, Zachensky, Rachel Warkentin, and Elizabeth Charter in the women's 200 yard medley relay at 1:42.08.
GWU had several swimmers to reach the finals during the meet. The women's 200 yard medley relay team placed first overall with a time of 1:42.08. Tyler Nuss finished second overall in the men's 500 yard freestyle with a time of 4:39.40. Adam Suggs finished second in the men's 1650 yard freestyle at 16:14.45 and third in the 500 yard freestyle at 4:47.14. Corey Hughey finished sixth in the 50 yard freestyle at 23.46, and Elizabeth Charter finished eleventh in the event at 23.78. In the men' 50 yard freestyle, Collin Burchins placed thirteenth at 22.17 and Mitch Turner placed fifteenth at 22.17. Burchins also placed seventh in the men's 100 yard breaststroke at 57.95. In the men's 200 yard IM, Kevin Koenig placed fourth at 1:58.12.
Several Bulldogs also participated in the time trials portion of the meet. Koenig timed in at 47.57 in the men's 100 yard freestyle and at 54.58 in the men's 100 yard backstroke. Turner timed in at 48.18 in the men's 100 yard freestyle. Nuss timed in at 49.00 in the men's 100 yard freestyle and at 1:45.93 in the men's 200 yard freestyle. Burchins timed in at 2:04.35 in the men's 200 yard breaststroke. Zachensky timed in at 2:17.50 in the women's 200 yard breasttroke, and Charter timed in at 1:51.57 in the 200 yard freestyle.
