Izokovic Earns Big South Co-Pitcher of the Week Award

CHARLOTTE - Gardner-Webb sophomore Adam Izokovic has been
named Big South Conference / Crons Brand Co-Pitcher of the Week
following another outstanding series on the mound.
The award is Izokovic's second weekly award this season from
the Big South. Izokovic (Shelby, N.C. / Burns HS) posted two saves
and a relief win last week, helping Gardner-Webb (19-20, 7-8 Big
South) go 3-1 over the seven-day span.
The 6-foot-3 righty was 1-0 with a 0.00 ERA and struck out 11
with only two walks in 8.0 combined innings of work, picking up
saves against Wofford and Charleston Southern, and a win later in
the series vs. the Buccaneers.
Against Wofford, Izokovic entered the game in the ninth with a
10-8 lead, and fanned all three Terriers he faced to pick up his
fourth save of the season.
He turned up the heat on Saturday, however, hurling a
scoreless ninth in the first game of a doubleheader to save a 9-8
win over the Bucs. In the nightcap, Izokovic entered the game with
his team tied, 4-4, and promptly tossed 90 pitches over 6.0
scoreless innings to get the win in a 5-4 decision. He fanned eight
batters and walked two in that lengthy relief appearance, which was
his fourth of the season to go longer than four innings.
Izokovic ranks first in the Big South Conference this season
with 1.43 ERA and a .172 opponents batting average. He is 5-2 on
the mound with five saves, and leads the team with 19 appearances -
all out of the bullpen.
Gardner-Webb hosts Wofford College on Wednesday night in
Forest City. First pitch is set for 6:00 pm at McNair Field.
