Clemson, S.C. - Gardner-Webb's
outdoor track and field team had a number of outstanding individual
performances, which was highlighted by five Bulldogs setting new
personal bests at the 2010 Orange & Purple Track Meet hosted by
Clemson University.
On the women's side, sophomore Caroline Arledge set a new
personal record in the javelin throw with her distance of 38.47
meters (126'2") in the finals, putting her in fourth-place
overall.
GWU junior Diana Palka took third-place in the 3000 meter
steeplechase with her time of 12:30.47, finishing ahead of fellow
Lady Bulldog Elisabeth Sawyer who took fourth overall with her time
of 13:53.74.
In the 800 meter run, freshman Ivana Hughes crossed the finish
line with a time of 2:20.83, placing her in fourth-place overall
for the event, while senior Brie Thompson turned in a distance of
44.39 meters (145'8") in the women's hammer throw, which was good
enough for a third-place finish.
Gardner-Webb junior Carrie Long and freshman Taylor Cook took
fifth and sixth, respectively, in the women's pole vault event, as
Long cleared the bar at 3.38 meters (11'1") and Cook turned in a
height of 3.08 meters (10'1.25").
On the men's side, freshman Josiah Stanton-Brooks set a new
personal best time of 1:52.39 in the 800 meter run, placing him in
eighth-place overall, while juniors Johnathon Rucker and Evan
Brusich each set new personal records in the 110 meter hurdles
event on Saturday. Rucker finished tied for fourth with his new
personal best time of 14.56 and Brusich took seventh with his new
personal best time of 14.95.
Freshman Bo Miller set a new personal best time of 22.14 in the
200 meter dash in which he finished eighth overall. Miller also
finished sixth in the 100 meter run with his time of 10.90.
Redshirt-senior Charlie Steinke finished second in the 3000
meter steeplechase with a time of 10:26.04, while
redshirt-sophomore Christoph Hutschalik turned in a season-best
mark of 58.23 meters (191') in the men's hammer throw event,
placing third overall.
Gardner-Webb's track and field teams will return to action next
weekend, as the Bulldogs will compete in the Georgia Tech
Invitational on May 14-15 hosted by Georgia Tech in Atlanta,
Ga.
