October 12, 2011 | Swimming
Boiling Springs, N.C. - Gardner-Webb's men's swimming team will travel this weekend for its first dual meet of the season, traveling to take on the Seahawks of UNC-Wilmington on Saturday.
Gardner-Webb men's swimming is entering its fifth year of competition and is hungry to improve on a 2010-11 season that was its most successful in its young history. The Runnin' Bulldogs posted a 7-2 record dual meet record last season, its second winning season in program history, and went undefeated in conference during the dual meet season, recording wins over Davidson, College of Charleston, and VMI. In addition, GWU grabbed a second place finish at CCSA Championships for the second consecutive year.
The Runnin' Bulldogs return eight student-athletes who earned all-conference honors at the CCSA Championships a season ago: Matt Anderson (sprint free), Jordan Denmark and Sam Woods (back, IM), Sam Wilson and Tyler Nuss (distance), Drew Ellwanger (breast), Mitch Turner (free), and DJ Hughes (fly, im, free). GWU will look to its returners as well as its newcomers to usher in another successful season.
Gardner-Webb's first home meet of the season arrives on October 29, as the Runnin' Bulldogs host Queens University at 10 am.
