October 12, 2011 | Swimming
Boiling Springs, N.C. - Gardner-Webb's women's swimming team will take to the road this weekend as it travels to face UNC-Wilmington of the Colonial Athletic Conference on Saturday.
The Runnin' Bulldogs are entering their thirteenth year of competition and are looking to maintain the momentum of a successful 2010-11 season. GWU went 8-3 in dual meets a season ago, including victories against conference foes Georgia Southern, College of Charleston, Liberty, VMI, and Campbell. Gardner-Webb also nabbed a third place finish at CCSA Championships last year, the third such finish in four years for the Runnin' Bulldogs.
GWU returns eight student-athletes who earned a top-8 finish at CCSA Championships last season: Kiah Bellows (breast), Emily Black (back), Elizabeth Charter (sprint free, fly), Faith Kempf and Lyndsey Roka (fly, im), Anna Springer (sprint free, breast), Sam Shelley (im), and Liz Van Halsema (free). The Runnin' Bulldogs will look to experienced veterans to lead newcomers in its drive for another promising year in the CCSA.
Gardner-Webb's first home meet of the season arrives on October 29, as the Runnin' Bulldogs host Queens University at 10 am.
