
GWU Women's Golf Takes Eighth-Place at the CSU Wendy's Invitational

North Charleston, S.C. - The Gardner-Webb women's golf team carded team rounds of 312 and 309 to finish with a two-round combined team score of 621, +53, placing the Runnin' Bulldogs in a tie for eighth-place overall with the Radford Highlanders at the 2011 CSU Wendy's Invitational held at the par 71, 6010 yards, Coosaw Creek Country Club in North Charleston, S.C.
The Runnin' Bulldogs two-day combined team score of 621, +53, was one stroke behind host Charleston Southern, who took seventh-place with a score of 620, +52, and 16 strokes behind first-place finisher Marshall, who won the event with a score of 605, +37.
Senior Courtney Finocchiaro led the way for the Runnin' Bulldogs, as she turned in rounds of 75 and 76 to finish the event tied for 12th-place overall with a two-round combined score of 151, +9.
The reigning Big South Women's Golfer of the Week Sammy Vass carded rounds of 75 and 80 to finish with a two-day combined score of 155, +13, good enough to finish in a tie at 23rd-place overall, while fellow junior Hannah Hellyer posted rounds of 79 and 80 to place in a tie for 41st-place overall with her score of 159, +17.
Right on the heels of Hellyer was Meghan Allum, as the junior recorded rounds of 83 and 77 to finish with a two-round combined score of 160, +18, good enough to finish tied for 45th-place overall.
Rounding out the scoring for GWU was junior Lauren Smith. Smith, who was disqualified on Monday, bounced back to shoot a second round, 76, +5, on Tuesday to help the Runnin' Bulldogs card a second round team score of 309, +25, and finish tied for eighth-place overall.
The Gardner-Webb women's golf team will wrap up its 2011 fall slate with a dual match against High Point on Saturday, October 22nd, at the Patriot Golf Club in Ninety Six, S.C.
