November 19, 2011 | Swimming
Charlotte, N.C. - After the first night of competition at the Wingate Fall Frenzy invitational meet, Gardner-Webb sits in second place overall.
GWU achieved its second place standing thanks to two stellar 800 relay teams and despite not fielding a competitor in the evening's first event, the 1650 FR. The A 800 FR relay team of Jenna Ballinger, Faith Kempf, Liz Van Halsema, and Samantha Shelley took first place with a time of 7:38.18. GWU's B team, comprised of Elizabeth Charter, Hillary Leonard, Lyndsey Roka, and Jenna Voelkert, also recorded a top tier finish in the event, taking third in 7:53.60.
Gardner-Webb finished the night with 72 points, good enough for second place behind the College of Charleston who recorded 103 points.
Action will resume tomorrow morning with prelims set to begin at 10 am. Saturday's finals session is slated to start at 6 pm. Results will be available following the session at Wingate's official athletic website www.wingatebulldogs.com.
