
Ellwanger Wins 100 BR, GWU Finishes Fourth in Men's Team Standings at Wingate Fall Frenzy

Charlotte, N.C. - Sophomore Drew Ellwanger won the 100 BR in a personal best time of 56.40 and Gardner-Webb took home a fourth place finish at the three day Wingate Fall Frenzy Sunday night.
GWU, which finished the invitational with 470.5 points, held on to the fourth place position it held after Saturday night's finals session. College of Charleston finished in first with 797 points, Queens College finished second with 655, and Wingate finished third with 639.
The Runnin' Bulldogs opened the night with a seventh place finish in the 200 FR relay, as Cole Hickey, Sam Wilson, Collin Burchins, and Colin James combined to time in at 1:26.68.
Jordan Denmark grabbed a seventh place finish in the 200 IM, touching in at 1:59.33. The sophomore from Raleigh, N.C. recorded a season best time of 1:58.35 in prelims of the event. DJ Hughes moved up five spots in finals to finish eleventh (1:57.93) and Burchins timed in at a season best 1:58.49 to finish twelfth.
Sophomore Seth Carter paced Gardner-Webb in the 100 FR with a time of 48.63, good enough for twelfth. Hughes followed in 48.84 to finish thirteenth for the Runnin' Bulldogs.
GWU saw another season best time recorded in Sunday night's finals session, as Wilson finished the 500 FR in 4:43.95 for seventh place in the event. Senior Christopher Musco finished sixteenth for GWU.
In the 200 BK, Denmark, in his second A final of the night, finished strong to move up and finish third in 1:54.20. Taft Kallam swam a season best 1:56.32 to finish seventh in the event.
Gardner-Webb got a win in the 100 BR, as Ellwanger led from start to finish to claim first place in 56.40. Burchins won the B final heat to finish ninth in a season best time of 59.85.
Cody Meyers led GWU in the 200 fly, climbing two positions in finals to finish fifth in 1:58.92. Brandon Searle picked up sixteenth for GWU in the event.
Gardner-Webb finished the night with its best relay performance of the weekend, finishing third in the 400 medley relay. Colin James, Ellwanger, Hughes, and Denmark combined to help GWU finish in a season best time of 3:28.01.
GWU will be back in action at USS Nationals, held at Georgia Tech December 1-3.
