
Hutschalik Resets School Record; GWU Sets 15 New Personal Best Marks at Niswonger Invitational

Johnson City, Tenn. - For the third straight indoor meet, Gardner-Webb redshirt-senior Christoph Hutschalik reset his GWU school record in the weight throw event, while 14 other GWU individuals set new personal best marks in their respective events this weekend at the Niswonger Invitational hosted by East Tennessee State in Johnson City, Tenn.
Hutschalik, who reset the school record in the weight throw last weekend with a mark of 18.27 meters, surpassed that feat this weekend, setting a new school record with a personal best mark of 18.71 meters. His new school record mark put him in second-place overall in the weight throw event.
Also tallying a top-10 finish this weekend on the men's side was freshman Mike McClay, senior Johnathan Rucker, sophomore Josiah Stanton-Brooks and freshman Carson Sears.
GWU's McClay took third-place overall in the 3000 meter run unseeded university/college division, turning in a personal best time of 8:50.56, while in the 60 meter hurdles university/college event Rucker crossed the finish line in fourth-place with his time of 8.28.
Gardner-Webb's Stanton-Brooks placed fifth in the 800 meter run invite university/college heat with a personal best time of 1:54.62, while Sears turned in an eighth-place finish with a personal best toss of 16.60 meters in the weight throw event.
Sophomore Bo Miller set a new personal best time of 22.87 in the 200 meter dash, while senior Evan Brusich also set a new personal record in the 200 meter dash with his time of 23.12.
In the 800 meter run unseeded event, freshman Trey Crook turned in a time of 2:06.55, a new personal best time, while fellow newcomer Jarrett Willis also set a new personal best time in the 3000 meter run unseeded event with his time of 10:07.29.
Fellow GWU freshman Johnathan Parks set a new personal best time of 8.57 in the 60 meter hurdles event, finishing 19th overall.
On the women's side, sophomore thrower Ashlei Alexander posted a fifth-place finish in the shot put event with a personal best mark of 12.93 meters and also tallied a ninth-place finish in the weight throw event with a toss of 15.27 meters.
In the pole vault event, GWU had two student-athletes finish in the top-10, as senior Carrie Long took sixth-place with her height of 3.50 meters, while sophomore Taylor Cook placed 10th overall, clearing the bar at 3.35 meters, a new personal best.
GWU's Sarah Herd recorded a ninth-place finish in the high jump, clearing the bar at 1.60 meters, while fellow Runnin' Bulldog Ann Marie Howell placed in a five-way tie for 10th-place with her height of 1.55 meters.
Sophomore Ariel Zimmerman crossed the finish line in sixth-place overall with her time of 5:20.09 in the 1 mile run unseeded event, while fellow distance runner Ivana Hughes turned in a 10th-place finish in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:23.41.
Junior Elisabeth Sawyer set a new personal record in the 1 mile run with her time of 5:32.77, while a trio of Runnin' Bulldogs set personal best times in the 200 meter dash. Freshman T'Keyah Bell set a new personal best time of 27.30, Katy Milton with her time of 27.79 and Nancy Cates with her time of 27.98.
The Gardner-Webb men's and women's indoor track & field teams will return to competition next weekend, as the Runnin 'Bulldogs will participate in the Tiger Paw Invitational hosted by Clemson University on February 11-12th in Clemson, S.C.
