
GWU Softball Set to Open Up Big South Play at Presbyterian College This Thursday

Boiling Springs, N.C. - The Gardner-Webb softball team will kick-off its Big South Conference slate this Thursday, March 24th, as the Runnin' Bulldogs will travel down to Clinton, S.C. to do battle with the Presbyterian College Blue Hose in a twin bill slated to start at 2 p.m.
Gardner-Webb is coming off a non-conference double-header sweep of North Carolina A&T in which the Runnin' Bulldogs scored 20 runs over the two games. GWU downed the Lady Aggies 11-1 in five innings in game one and then erased a first inning 2-0 deficit in game two to take a 9-5 win over North Carolina A&T.
The Gardner-Webb Runnin' Bulldogs are 8-14 overall and 3-4 in true road contests this season. Gardner-Webb is coming off back-to-back wins over North Carolina A&T in Greensboro, N.C. on March 16th, and has seen its offense come to life as of late.
Freshman leadoff hitter Samantha Meengahan is leading the way offensively for GWU, as she is hitting a team-high .324 with 14 runs scored and seven stolen bases. Redshirt-freshman Morgan Baker is batting .321 with a team-high 14 RBIs, while freshman third baseman Rachel Jablonski is hitting .303 with three RBIs and four runs scored. Junior catcher McKenzie Morenus leads the way with eight doubles and three home runs, while fellow classmate Lindsea Hutchinson has driven in 11 runs on the year.
In the circle for GWU, both Cindy Boomhower and Jessica Childers have posted four wins on the season, as Childers is doing it with strikeouts, striking out a team-high 46 batters.
The Presbyterian College Blue Hose are 2-0 in Big South Conference play, having defeated Winthrop at home 3-1 and 4-2 one week ago on March 16th. PC overall is 13-5-1 on the season, including having posted a 6-2 record at home in Clinton, S.C.
Offensively, Codee Yeske and Tera Powell lead the Blue Hose, as Yeske is hitting .323 with two home runs and eight RBIs, while Powell is batting .313 with 11 runs scored. Amanda Miller leads the Blue Hose with 12 RBIs, while three different PC players have tallied two home runs on the year.
The tandem of Leslie Hensley and Brittany Howell are getting it done in the circle for PC, as Hensley is 8-3 on the year with a 0.86 ERA and a .195 opponents batting average on the season.
Presbyterian College is coming off a 1-0 shutout loss to UNC Wilmington on Sunday, March 20th, but has lost three of its last five games since sweeping Winthrop.
The Blue Hose will take on Western Carolina in a non-conference double-header on Tuesday, March 22nd, before hosting the Runnin' Bulldogs on March 24th.
