
Alexander, Stanton-Brooks and Long Highlight GWU's Performances at Rain Shortened Asics/Winthop Invitational

Rock Hill, S.C. - The Gardner-Webb outdoor track & field teams' posted a combined 46 top-15 finishes over the weekend at the rain shortened Asics/Winthrop Invitational hosted by Winthrop University from March 24-26th in Rock Hill, S.C.
Leading the way on the women's side was sophomore Ashlei Alexander, who took first-place in the hammer throw event with a distance of 48.46 meters (159') and in the shot put event with a mark of 12.66 meters (41'6"), while freshman Kristen Hurley turned in a second-place finish in the women's heptathlon event with a total of 4,223 points.
The Runnin' Bulldog relay unit of Katy Milton, Amara Isbell, Nancy Cates and T'Keyah Bell turned in a time of 50.00 to finish in a tie for second-place overall in the 4x100 meter relay event on Saturday, while Isbell went on to cross the finish line in fourth-place in the 200 meter dash preliminaries with her time of 25.89.
GWU dominated the women's pole vault event, taking second, fourth and fifth places, respectively, as senior Carrie Long finished tied for second-place overall, tying her GWU school record mark of 3.70 meters (12'1.50"). Sophomore Taylor Cook took fourth-place with her mark of 3.40 meters (11'1.75"); while fellow teammate Ann Marie Howell also cleared the bar at 3.40 meters (11'1.75") took finish in fifth.
In the javelin throw, Caroline Arledge turned in a third-place finish with a throw of 34.19 meters (112'2"), finishing ahead of both Howell and freshman Olivia Moody who turned in marks of 32.73 meters (107'4") and 26.14 meters (85'9") to place fifth and eighth, respectively.
Freshman Kyntoya Hansford took third-place in the hammer throw with a mark of 39.69 meters (130'2"), seventh in the discus throw with a mark of 29.11 meters (95'6") and finished in eighth in the shot put with a throw of 10.19 meters (33'5.25"), while fellow thrower Yazzming Lee finished in fifth-place in both the hammer throw and the shot put events with marks of 38.25 meters (125'6") and 11.40 meters (37'5"), respectively.
Senior Diana Palka crossed the finish line in third-place overall in the 5000 meter run with a time of 17:58.36, while fellow classmate Laura Scott finished in fifth-place with her time of 18:41.57.
In the 800 meter run finals, sophomore Ivana Hughes and junior Cherish Richardson finished back-to-back in fifth and sixth-place overall with times of 2:24.33 and 2:24.94, respectively, while Bell picked up a 12th-place finish in the 100 meter dash preliminaries with her time of 13.07.
GWU's Milton picked up a 10th-place finish in the long jump with a leap of 4.80 meters (15'9") and a 15th-place finish in the 200 meter dash preliminaries with a time of 26.90, while freshman Katie Spiro finished 15th overall in both the shot put, with a mark of 9.59 meters (31'5.75") and in the 400 meter dash preliminaries with a time of 1:02.71.
On the men's side, the GWU relay team of Johnathan Parks, Bo Miller, Johnathan Rucker and Tyson Petty picked up a first-place finish in the 4x100 meter relay with their time of 43.24, while sophomore Josiah Stanton-Brooks crossed the finish line in first in the 800 meter run with his time of 1:55.36.
Redshirt-senior Christoph Hutschalik earned a second-place finish in the hammer throw event with his distance of 60.70 meters (199'2"), finishing only behind Gardner-Webb assistant coach Andy Fryman's first-place mark of 71.50 meters (234'7"), which set a new track record.
Miller finished in third-place overall in the 100 meter dash with a time of 11.48 and eighth in the 200 meter dash preliminaries with a time of 22.59, while Rucker turned in a fifth-place finish in the 110 meter hurdle preliminaries with a time of 14.57 and a 10th-place finish 100 meter dash prelims with a time of 11.10.
In the throwing events, freshman Carson Sears picked up three top-10 finishes over the three-day event, turning in a third-place finish in the discus throw with a mark of 40.79 meters (133'10"), a fourth-place finish in the hammer throw with a toss of 52.00 meters (170'7") and a seventh-place finish in the shot put with a distance of 13.61 meters (44'8").
Fellow freshmen throwers Andy Scates and Joseph Urquhart placed 11th and 14th overall in the discus throw with marks of 30.62 meters (100'5") and 29.98 meters (98'4"), respectively, while C.J. Wise and Josh Padgett each picked up two top-15 finishes overall. Wise earned a fifth-place finish in the javelin throw event with a throw of 41.94 meters (137'7") and a 10th-place showing in the hammer throw with a mark of 44.39 meters (145'8"), while Padgett took ninth in the javelin throw with a distance of 34.93 meters (114'7") and 12th in the hammer with a toss of 40.69 meters (133'6").
In the distance events, freshman Mike McClay turned in a sixth-place finish in the 1500 meter run with his time of 4:05.96, while Justin Cole took seventh in the 10000 meter run with a finals time of 36:58.37 and Drew Ford placed 10th in the 1500 meter development run with a time of 4:36.86.
Gardner-Webb's Galen Keene and Trey Crook crossed the finish line in eighth and ninth, respectively, in the 800 meter run development event with times of 2:05:48 and 2:05:53, while Parks turned in a 13th-place finish in the 110 meter hurdle prelims with his time of 15.52.
Gardner-Webb will return to action next weekend, as the Runnin' Bulldogs will have a number of individuals compete in two different meets. GWU will have individuals compete at both the Wofford Relays in Spartanburg, S.C. and at the Pepsi Florida Relays in Gainesville, Fla. on April 1-2nd.
