PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - Gardner-Webb kicker Trever Austin (Shelby, N.C. / Crest HS) has been selected to the 2011 College Sports Journal FCS All-Freshman Team, capping off a stellar first season with the Runnin' Bulldogs.
Austin (5-10, 190) was the lone kicker selected to the 40-man squad, which has representation from each of the Football Championship Subdivision's 14 conferences.
Austin earned second-team All-Big South Conference honors in 2011, pacing the league with 12 field goals and ranking second with an 80.0 percent accuracy rate on field goals (12-of-15). Austin earned Big South Conference Freshman of the Week honors three times and was named FCS National Placekicker of the week following a heroic performance in a last-second win at Coastal Carolina on October 22.
In that game, Austin connected on all four of his field goal attempts, including a 32-yard game winner as time expired.
Austin was also an effective 21-of-22 on PAT attempts this past season, scoring 57 points to rank among the league leaders in kick scoring as well.
