
GWU Volleyball to Hold 'Dig Pink' Match on Friday Night; Will Host Coastal Carolina and Charleston Southern this Weekend

Boiling Springs, N.C. - The Gardner-Webb volleyball team will return home this weekend to host both Coastal Carolina and Charleston Southern in two key Big South Conference matches in Paul Porter Arena. As part of Friday night's "Dig Pink" match versus Coastal Carolina, the Runnin' Bulldogs will wear pink jerseys in support of breast cancer awareness.
GWU (8-15, 3-3 Big South) is coming off a 3-1 when at Asheville last Friday night that not only handed the Runnin' Bulldogs the regular season series sweep of the Bulldogs, but also snapped its road match losing streak at nine dating back to last season. The win was also Gardner-Webb's first road win of this season and the first win at the Justice Center in Asheville, N.C. since 2006.
The Runnin' Bulldogs are 4-5 at home thus far this season and are led by sophomore setter Heather Feldman, junior Tyler Cockrell and junior Erin Anderson. Feldman has posted 10 double-doubles so far this season; while Cockrell has registered double digit kills in each of the last four matches. Anderson, along with fellow classmate Emily Holte and fellow outside hitter Molly Rhyne have come on strong as of late, as the three continue to improve with its consistency offensively for head coach Leo Sayles squad.
Gardner-Webb will open up play this weekend at 7 p.m. versus Coastal Carolina in Paul Porter Arena.
Coastal Carolina (7-11, 5-2 Big South) is coming off a home loss to South Carolina on Tuesday night. Prior to that loss, the Chants had posted two straight wins over Radford and Liberty.
The Chants are 3-4 in true road matches this season and are a combined 4-9 away from Myrtle Beach, S.C. Gabriella Horvath leads the team with 209 kills on the season.
The Runnin' Bulldogs will then turn around to take on Charleston Southern at 2 p.m. on Saturday afternoon.
Charleston Southern (9-15, 3-4 in Big South) has dropped three straight matches, yet has won four out its last eight contests.
The Buccaneers, who are under first year head coach Al Givens, are 2-4 in true road matches this season. However, the Bucs have six different players with over 100 kills on the season.
