
Ellwanger and Denmark Record 2nd Place Individual Finishes to Lead GWU Men's Swimming on Day Two of the Wingate Fall Frenzy

Charlotte, N.C. - Junior Jordan Denmark and senior Drew Ellwanger finished 2nd in the 400 I.M. and 100 breast respectively, as the GWU men remained in 4th place in the men's team standings after day two of the Wingate Fall Frenzy.
Gardner-Webb (373.5) trails 1st place Queens (645), 2nd place College of Charleston (556.5), and 3rd place Wingate (391) after two days of competition.
In the 200 medley relay, GWU Jordan Denmark, Drew Ellwanger, DJ Hughes, and Cole Hickey teamed up to score a 3rd place finish for the Runnin' Bulldog men. Denmark (24.41), Ellwanger (25.60), Hughes (22.40), and Hickey (20.70) combined for a season best time of 1:33.11 in the event.
Junior Jordan Denmark (Raleigh, N.C.) held off Queens' James Moseley for 2nd place in the 400 I.M., recording a personal best time of 4:06.06. Freshman Luke Denman (Greenville, S.C.) moved up in finals to finish 4th, sprinting home for a season best time of 4:07.41 in the event.
Junior Cody Meyers (10th, 4:11.09), senior Tyler Nuss (17th, 4:16.92), and freshman Ryan Palmer (21st, 4:25.53) also finales for the Runnin' Bulldogs in the event.
Hughes, a senior from Snellville, Ga., led GWU in the men's 100 fly with a season best time, taking 3rd in 50.20. Sophomore Brandon Searle took 7th, moving up in finals to finish in a season best 51.21.
Junior Matt Anderson (Fortaleza, Brazil) also scored a season best time in the 100 fly, finishing in 52.37 to finish 11th in the event. Hickey added a 19th place finish, turning in a time of 54.57 during prelims.
In the men's 200 free, freshman Tate Warden (Charleston, W.V.) led the Runnin' Bulldogs with a 5th place finish. Warden recorded a season best time of 1:43.56 during event prelims, tops for GWU in the event. Freshmen Nathan Lile (10th, 1:44.89), Joe MacGregor (11th, 1:45.15), and Andy Watts (18th, 1:48.15) finaled in the event for GWU.
Ellwanger, a senior from Newborn, Ga., raced to a 2nd place finish in the 100 breast, recording a season best time of 56.08 during prelims. Junior Phil Leonard (Greenville, S.C.) and seniors Mitch Turner (Acworth, Ga.) and John Kempf (Charlotte, N.C.) also notched season best times Saturday, finishing 14th (1:00.65), 17th (1:01.69), and 20th (1:05.50) respectively.
Searle and Taft Kallam, a junior from Randleman, N.C., finished 14th and 16th in the 100 back respectively. The duo turned in season best times of 53.59 and 54.48 in prelims.
GWU finished the night out with a 4th place finish in the 800 free relay, with Warden (1:43.40), MacGregor (1:46.30), LIle (1:43.41), and Denmark (1:45.06) teaming up for a season best time of 6:58.17.
The Runnin' Bulldogs will look to finish strong at the Wingate Fall Frenzy, with competition on day three beginning during tomorrow morning's prelims session and concluding with Sunday evening's finals session.
