
Gardner-Webb Track & Field Finalizes Schedule for 2012-13 Season

Boiling Springs, N.C. - Gardner-Webb University's track & field program has released its schedule for the upcoming 2012-13 competition season, highlighted by the Indoor and Outdoor Big South Conference Championship meets, held February 21-22 in Winston-Salem, N.C., and April 18-20 in Lynchburg, Va. respectively.
The Runnin' Bulldogs open the season this week for the Appalachian Invitational, with a group of multi-event performers traveling to Boone, N.C. for competition Thursday. GWU will also compete this weekend, November 30 - December 1, at the Invitational.
GWU's next meet comes January 18-19 for the Niswonger Invitational, hosted by East Tennessee State University in Johnson City, Tenn. The team will also compete at the JDL Invitational (Feb. 1-2, Winston-Salem, N.C.), Tiger Invitational (Feb. 8-9, Clemson, S.C.), and Appalachian State Invitational (Feb. 15, Boone, N.C.) prior to Big South Indoor Championships February 21-22.
A healthy slate of meets also awaits Gardner-Webb track & field during the Outdoor season, including competitions at the Coastal Carolina Invitational (March 8-9), 49er Invitational (March 14-16), VertKlasse Meeting (March 22-23, High Point, N.C.), and Florida Relays (April 5-6, Gainesville, Fla.) prior to Big South Outdoor Championships April 18-20.
GWU returns several standouts from last season's men's and women's track & field squads. Senior thrower Ashlei Alexander (Queens, N.Y.), senior mid-distance specialist Ivana Hughes (Evans, Ga.), senior pole vaulter Bethany Wright (Clayton, Ga.), and junior multi athlete Kristen Hurley (Columbia, Conn.), All-Conference performers a season ago, all return on the women's side. Juniors Terry Davis (Wilson, N.C.), Johnathan Parks (Douglasville, Ga.), and Carson Sears (Suwanee, Ga.) provide All-Conference experience for a talented men's squad.
Gardner-Webb opens its season this week at the Appalachian State Invitational, November 30 through December 1.
