Boone, N.C. - Senior Josiah Stanton-Brooks raced to a first place
finish in the 1 Mile Run, leading Gardner-Webb track & field at
the season-opening 2012 Appalachian Indoor Invitational.
Stanton-Brooks (Seattle, Wash.) took the top spot in the men's 1
Mile Run, outpacing the field with a time of 4:36.96.
Jasmine Miles, a junior from Amelia, Va., led
Gardner-Webb in the women's weight throw, placing 3rd after
throwing 16.47 m.
Senior Taylor Cook (Boone, N.C.) led GWU in the women's pole
vault, putting up a personal best height of 3.55 m to take 4th in
event. Fellow senior Bethany Wright (Clayton, Ga.)tied for 5th, recording
a height of 3.40 m.
Freshman Jessica Norris (Johnson City, Tenn.) represented GWU in
the women's triple jump, recording an 8th place finish with a
distance of 10.53 m.
Gardner-Webb freshmen Kaylan Myers (Lexington, N.C.) and Norris each jumped
1.52 m in the High Jump, tying for 8th in the event.
Olivia Moody (Plano, Ill.) paced GWU in the women's
55 m hurdles with a time of 9.22, good enough to garner the junior
a 6th place finish in the event.
A pair of freshmen led GWU in the 55 m dash. Meredith Byl
(Tucson, Ariz.) and Sarah Perkins (Gorham, Maine) recorded times of
7.62 and 7.63 m, placing 12th and 13th respectively.
Junior Katie Spiro (Sylva, N.C.) took 6th in the
women's 1 mile run, leading GWU in the event with a time of
5:47.50. In the 3000 m run, senior Ariel Zimmerman (Williamsburg, Va.) raced to a
5th place finish, timing in at 10:59.70.
Perkins and Nicole Saxton, a sophomore from Tampa, Fla., placed
6th and 7th in the women's 400 m dash, timing in at 59.77 and
1:00.26.
GWU closed the meet with a 3rd place finish in the women's 4x300
m relay, recording a time of 2:57.56.
Junior Carson Sears also had a standout first weekend of
competition for the Gardner-Webb men, recording the first of two
second place finishes in the men's weight throw. His distance of
18.04 m was followed by a 4th place finish by freshman Alex Young
(LaVergne, Tenn.), who threw 17.02 m in his first collegiate
performance.
Junior Terry Davis took 4th in the men's triple jump. An
All-Conference performer in the triple jump a season ago, Davis
(Wilson, N.C.) leaped 14.23 m.
Sears (Suwanee, Ga.) led a 2-3-4 finish for GWU in the men's
shot put, taking 2nd with a distance of 15.12 m. Freshman A.J.
White (Hurricane, W.V.) was 3rd, tossing 14.61 m, and Young took
4th in the event with a distance of 14.43 m in a strong event for
the Gardner-Webb men.
Tavarus Ferguson, a junior from Evans, Ga., put up a
personal best in the men's long jump, taking 2nd in the event after
jumping 7.04 m.
Joseph Martin, a freshman from Broadway, Va., placed 8th in the
men's 400 m dash. The freshman crossed the line at 51.53 in the
event.
GWU's Tyler Samotis, a sophomore from Hendersonville, N.C.,
tied for 5th in the men's pole vault, leading the team in the event
with a height of 4.45 m.
Josh Wembolua paced Gardner-Webb in the men's 55 m
hurdles, as the freshman sprinted to a 6th place finish with a time
of 8.01 in his first meet as a Runnin' Bulldog.
Another freshman stood out in the 55 m dash to lead the
Gardner-Webb men. Almonty Abney sprinted to a 10th place finish
with a time of 6.66 in the event.
The GWU men took 3rd in the 4x300 m relay, recording a time of
2:28.06.
Gardner-Webb trac & field is scheduled to resume their
Indoor schedule in January.
