
Gardner-Webb Women's Swimming Finishes in 4th Place at 2012 CCSA Championships

Athens, Ga. - Gardner-Webb had three swimmers earn All-CCSA honors and beat out 5th place by 17 points as the Runnin' Bulldog ladies finished in 4th place in the women's team standings at 2012 CCSA Championships.
GWU came from 7th place after day one all the way to 4th after day three to earn the program's fifth consecutive Top 4 finish at CCSA Championships. Gardner-Webb finished with 365 points, edging out 5th place North Florida (348) and 6th place Davidson (340).
Florida Gulf Coast (840) finished in 1st place in the standings.
Gardner-Webb collected eleven finals swims during prelims, five of those in the Top 8, heading into Saturday night's finals session.
Freshman Jenna Ballinger gave GWU a 5th place finish in the 200 Back, finishing in 2:03.14. Ballinger, who earned All-CCSA honors in the 200 Free on Friday, recorded a personal best time with the performance.
Sophomore Laurenn Singleton added a 10th place finish for Gardner-Webb in the event, touching in at a personal best 2:06.32.
In the 100 Free finals, Ballinger finished in 52.13, good enough for 11th in the event. The freshman recorded a personal best time of 51.75 during Saturday morning prelims.
Gardner-Webb put two in the Top 8 of the 200 Breast thanks to personal best performances from Charity Byrum and Samantha Shelley.
Byrum earned a 5th place finish in 2:18.97. Byrum recorded a personal best time of 2:17.33 in prelims of the 200 Breast. Overall, the freshman earned All-Conference honors in two of her three individual events (200 IM, 100 BR).
Shelley added a 6th place finish in a personal best time of 2:20.67 for Gardner-Webb, good enough for top five all-time for GWU in the event.
Senior Kiah Bellows helped Gardner-Webb's surge in the event with a 9th place finish, winning the consolation heat in a season best time of 2:21.52.
Freshman Jessica Robinson placed 10th for GWU in the event, turning in a personal best time of 2:22.62.
In the 200 Fly, freshman CJay Wiley led GWU by finishing 8th, recording a time of 2:07.27. Wiley swam a personal best 2:05.66 during prelims of the event.
Sophomore Faith Kempf won the consolation heat in a personal best 2:05.20 during finals, placing 9th in the event for the Runnin' Bulldogs. Senior Lyndsey Roka added a 13th place showing in 2:08.64. Roka turned in a season best time of 2:08.02 in prelims of the event.
Gardner-Webb closed the meet with a 4th place showing in the 400 Free relay, racing to a season best time of 3:28.93. Ballinger, Byrum, Kempf, and Hillary Leonard combined to record the top five performance all-time for GWU in the event.
In all, three Gardner-Webb swimmers earned All-CCSA honors over the weekend: Charity Byrum (200 IM and 100 Breast), CJay Wiley (400 IM), Jenna Ballinger (200 Free).
