Gardner-Webb Swimmers to Compete at Last Chance Meet on Sunday, February 26

Boiling Springs, N.C. - A host of Gardner-Webb men's and women's swimmers, coming of a spectacular showing at last weekend's CCSA Championship meet, will compete at the Hokie L.C. Invite with the goal of securing qualifying times for U.S.S. Nationals and Olympic Trials.
Those who will make the trip to Blacksburg to compete in the meet are: juniors Drew Ellwanger, Tyler Nuss, and Liz Van Halsema, sophomores Jordan Denmark, Cole Hickey, Faith Kempf, and Sam Wilson, and freshmen Charity Byrum, CJay Wiley, and Colin James.
Ellwanger (Newborn, Ga.), who won top honors in the 100 breast at CCSA's, will swim both the 100 m and 200 m breaststroke this coming weekend.
Nuss (Hamilton, Ohio), a 2012 All-CCSA performer in the 400 m IM, will compete in the 400 free at the Hokie Invite.
Van Halsema (Charlotte, N.C.) is a 2012 CCSA finalist in the 500 free. She will be swimming the 100 and 200 m freestyle Sunday.
Denmark (Raleigh, N.C.) is coming off a four-time All-Conference showing at CCSA Championships last weekend and will swim both the 100 and 200 m backstroke in Blacksburg on Sunday. He is the current school record holder in the 200 back as well as the 200 IM.
Hickey (Charlotte, N.C.), who earned All-CCSA honors in five events at CCSA Championships and set a new school record in the 50 free, will swim the 50 m free at the Hokie Invite Sunday.
Kempf (Sterling, Kan.), a 2012 CCSA finalist in the 200 fly, will compete in both the 100 and 200 m fly this weekend.
Wilson (New Bern, N.C.) earned All-Conference marks in two individual events at 2012 CCSA Championships (500 and 1650 free), recording new GWU records in both events. He will swim the 200 and 400 m free at the meet on Sunday.
Byrum (Winston-Salem, N.C.) was All-Conference in the 200 IM and 100 breast last week at 2012 CCSA Championships. At the Hokie Invite this weekend, she will race the 100 m breast as well as the 50 m free.
Wiley (Savannah, Ga.), a three-time 2012 CCSA finalist and the CCSA Champion in the 400 IM, will swim the 200 and 400 m IM in Blacksburg.
James (Greensboro, N.C.), an All-CCSA performer in both the 200 free and 200 medley relays, is slated to swim the 100 back Sunday at the Hokie L.C. Invite. James is the current school record-holder in that event.
