Gardner-Webb Scores 7-0 Win over Lees-McRae At Home on Wednesday Afternoon

Boiling Springs, N.C. - Gardner-Webb's men's tennis team dominated from start to finish, sweeping the singles and doubles matches Wednesday en route to a 7-0 victory over visiting Lees-McRae.
The Runnin' Bulldogs improve to 2-3 thus far through the 2012 season.
GWU opened with wins at all three doubles positions to claim the point. Stephen Martin and Roman Piftor took the win at the #2 slot over Skylar Warren and Graham Battle by a score of 8-3. The freshmen duo of Brendan Dempsey/Blake Dunlap sealed the doubles point for Gardner-Webb, claiming an 8-2 win over Marcelo Tatai/Hang Lak Choi at the #3 doubles position.
Another pair of freshmen, Ernest Alberch and Joao Poli, scored a win at #1 doubles, outlasting Alex Hayes/Pedro Nunes by a count of 8-4.
Dempsey made it three singles win in a row Wednesday, improving his singles record to 3-1 on the year with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Tatai in his first match at the #5 position for the Runnin' Bulldogs.
Alberch, the reigning Big South Freshmen of the Week, scored a 6-2, 6-1 win over Warren at the #3 singles slot. The win propels Alberch's season record to 3-2.
At #1, sophomore Korhan Ates cruised to a 6-0, 6-2 win over Hayes. Junior Matthew Parker scored a 6-3, 6-0 win over Choi at the #6 position for the Runnin' Bulldogs, winning his first singles match of the season.
Piftor fought for a 6-0, 6-3 win over Battle, posting his third singles win of 2012, all at the #4 position.
Junior Adam Knutsson-Sundblad wrapped things up with a 6-4, 6-1 win over Nunes in #2 singles.
Gardner-Webb will return to action with two road matches this weekend, traveling to take on Tennessee Tech on Saturday and Chattanooga on Sunday. The matches are scheduled for 2:00 pm and 12:00 pm respectively.
