
Howell, Sears, and McClay Set School Records to Lead Gardner-Webb at the 49er Classic

Charlotte, N.C. - Senior Ann Marie Howell set a Gardner-Webb school record in the Pole Vault and eight Runnin' Bulldogs earned Top 5 finishes to lead GWU at the 49er Classic.
Howell recorded a height of 3.80 m in the Women's Pole Vault. The showing for the senior from Mooreville, Miss. set a new personal best as well as a new school record, improving on the 3.75 m mark previously shared by Howell and former Runnin' Bulldog Carrie Long.
Also on the women's side, senior Sarah Herd (Cherryville, N.C.) tied for 5th in the Women's High Jump, achieving a height of 1.65 m. Herd's performance marked an Outdoor personal best in the event.
Gardner-Webb had three athletes crack the Top 8 in the Women's Pole Vault. Howell led the way with a 2nd place finish, vaulting 3.80 m in the event. Junior Bethany Wright (Clayton, Ga.) was next, finishing in 5th with an Outdoor personal best height of 3.65 m. Junior Taylor Cook (Boone, N.C.) was 8th for GWU in the event, recording a height of 3.50 m.
Senior Caroline Arledge (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) led paced the Runnin' Bulldogs in the Women's Javelin Throw, as she finished 4th with a personal best distance of 38.97 m.
Jasmine Miles (Amelia, Va.) achieved a 7th place finish in the Women's Discus Throw, as the sophomore tossed a distance of 40.24 m to earn the Top 10 showing. Miles added an 8th place showing in the Women's Hammer Throw with a personal best distance of 45.59 m.
In the 4 x 100 m Relay, Gardner-Webb's T'Keyah Bell, Nancy Cates, Milton, and Wright teamed up to finish in 49.11, good enough for 7th in the event.
Junior Yazzming Lee (Paterson, N.J.) threw 49.09 m in the Hammer Throw, shattering her previous best to finish in 4th place in the event.
In the Women's 3000 m Run, GWU put a pair of runners in the Top 12 of the event. Senior Elisabeth Sawyer (Charlotte, N.C.) raced to 7th, finishing in a personal best 10:53.15. Fellow senior Elizabeth Glunk (Carrolton, Va.) ran a personal best 11:11.73, running to a 12th place finish.
GWU put two in the Top 15 of the Women's Shot Put, with Lee's 11th place showing leading the way. The junior's 12.07 m distance marked a new personal best. Fellow junior Stephanie Hamilton (Blair, Neb.) finished 13th for the Runnin' Bulldogs, recording a distance of 11.90 m.
Senior Katy Milton (Monroe, N.C.) earned a 12th place finish in the Women's Long Jump, achieving a personal best distance of 5.06 m. Milton also put up a personal best time in the 200 m Dash, finishing with a time of 25.90.
Sophomore Olivia Moody (Plano, Ill.) took a 15th place finish in the Women's 400 m Hurdles, crossing the finish line at 1:10.15. Moody added a 17th place showing in the Women's Javelin Throw, putting up a personal best distance of 31.42 m in the event.
Gardner-Webb's 4 x 400 m Relay team garnered a 10th place finish, as Milton, Nicole Saxton, Wright, and Ariel Zimmerman combined to finish in 4:08.05.
On the men's side, Gardner-Webb was led by sophomore thrower Carson Sears's school record performance in the Men's Hammer Throw. Sears recorded a personal best distance of and 2nd place finish in the event at 62.46 m, out-throwing GWU's record of 61.08 m set by former Runnin' Bulldog standout Cristoph Hutschalik. The sophomore added a 12th place showing in the Shot Put, recording another personal best distance at 14.97 m.
Sears finished the weekend with a 13th place finish in the Men's Discus Throw, throwing for a distance of 45.50 m in the event.
Achieving a Top 3 finish for GWU in the Men's 5000 m Run was sophomore Mike McClay (Lawrenceville, Ga.). McClay ran to a 3rd place finish for the Runnin' Bulldogs, finishing in a personal best 14:51.34. McClay's performance reset the Gardner-Webb record books, besting the school's previous top mark set at 14:57.94 by Nick Kelly.
Josiah Stanton-Brooks (Seattle, Wa.) raced to a 3rd place finish in the Men's 800 m Run, as the junior recorded a personal best time of 1:51.98 to lead the Runnin' Bulldogs in the event.
Senior Travis Rogers (Conyers, Ga.) earned a Top 10 finish in the Men's Hammer Throw, placing 9th with a personal best distance of 51.96 m. The senior added a 15th place showing in the Shot Put, tossing 14.60 m for GWU.
In the Men's Triple Jump, sophomore Terry Davis (Wilson, N.C.) placed 10th for GWU, tying his personal best with a distance of 13.72 m.
The Runnin' Bulldogs got a 13th place showing in the Men's 800 m Run, as Stanton-Brooks ran to a time of 3:58.43 in the event.
Also achieving a 13th place finish for GWU was sophomore Johnathan Parks (Douglasville, Ga.), who grabbed a time of 55.81 in the Men's 400 m Hurdles.
Freshman Miles Harris (Atlanta, Ga.) recorded a collegiate best performance in the Men's 400 m Dash in sprinting to a time of 49.74.
Gardner-Webb's 4 x 400 m Relay finished 6th, as Davis, Codi Merritt, Harris, and Parks teamed up for a time of 3:19.57.
Gardner-Webb track & field will be back n action this weekend, competing at the Weems Baskin Invitational in Columbia, S.C. The event will take place March 23-24.
