
GWU Men's Tennis Bests Abraham Baldwin 5-2 on Saturday

Boiling Springs, N.C. - Gardner-Webb men's tennis won four of the six singles matches en route to a 5-2 triumph over visiting Abraham Baldwin at home on Saturday.
GWU (6-11, 0-5) benefited from a solid group effort as six different Runnin' Bulldogs earned a win Saturday.
Due to weather concerns, singles were played first with doubles following immediately after.
Freshman Brendan Dempsey (Dublin, Ireland) got things started with a win at No. 6 singles, cruising to a 6-0, 6-0 victory over the Stallions' Matthew Anglin. The win marked Dempsey's 10th of the year in singles play.
At the No. 3 singles slot, junior Roman Piftor (Tashkent, Uzbekistan) took a 6-2, 6-0 win over Danio Faria, picking up his team-leading 11th win of the season.
Two more GWU freshmen picked up singles wins Saturday. At No. 5, Joao Poli (Londrina, Brazil) bested Tim Kueckelhaus by a 6-3, 6-0 margin, and Ernest Alberch (Torello, Spain) earned a 6-3, 6-1 win at the No. 4 spot for the Runnin' Bulldogs.
Gardner-Webb was able to take the doubles point, taking wins at the No. 1 and No. 3 positions. Alberch and Matthew Parker (Marietta, Ga.) teamed up for an 8-3 win over the Stallions' Kamil Oliver Snaider/Faria at No. 1 doubles. The duo of Dempsey and Blake Dunlap (Mooresville, N.C.) sealed the doubles point for GWU, taking an 8-5 win at No. 3 over Kuecklehaus/Symanski.
Gardner-Webb turns around for another home match tomorrow, hosting South Carolina St. Sunday's match is set for a 12:30 p.m. start time.
