GWU Track & Field Assistant Coach Andy Fryman Set to Compete at the 2012 Olympic Trials on Thursday, June 21

Boiling Springs, N.C. - Gardner-Webb assistant track & field coach Andy Fryman will compete in the hammer throw event at the 2012 U.S. Olympic Trials on Thursday afternoon, June 21, at the Nike World Headquarters in Beaverton, Ore.
The men's hammer throw competition is scheduled to start at 3:15 p.m. (pacific time) and will include one qualifying round and one final round for the event.
Fryman, a graduate of the University of Kentucky, competed in the hammer, discus, shot put and weight throw during his collegiate career with the Wildcats.
Upon finishing his eligibility, Fryman held the school record in the weight throw. He was a two-time all American (discus/hammer), five-time all Mideast Region (shot put/discus/hammer), all southeastern conference (shot put) and a Southeastern Conference Champion (shot put). Fryman also qualified for the Indoor NCAA Division 1 National Championships (2008) and the Outdoor NCAA Division 1 National Championships (2005, 2006, 2008).
Currently, Fryman is still training and competing in the hammer throw, taking part in the 2011 USA Outdoor National Championships where he recorded an eighth-place finish in the hammer throw event with a mark of 70.90 meters.
At the 2010 USA Outdoor National Championships, Fryman took 15-place in the event at Des Moines, Iowa.
Returning to one of the most hallowed sites in the sport, the U.S. Olympic Team Trials will return in 2012 to Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon, the site of the '72, '76, '80 and '08 Olympic Trials. The country's most prestigious pre-Olympic event, the Olympic Trials is where the roster for Team USA will be selected for the 2012 Olympic Games in London.
The largest national championship track meet in the world, the U.S. Olympic Trials hosts more than 1,000 athletes as they compete for the right to represent Team USA at the Olympic Games.
