
Runnin' Bulldogs Set to Face Two Regional Foes this Week in Western Carolina and UNC Asheville

Boiling Springs, N.C. - The Gardner-Webb volleyball team will take on two regional foes this week, as the Runnin' Bulldogs will hit the road to take on the Catamounts of Western Carolina on Tuesday night at 6 p.m. in Cullowhee, N.C. before returning home to host UNC Asheville in the two teams' Big South Conference opener on Friday night, September 21st, at 7 p.m. in Paul Porter Arena.
Gardner-Webb, who has won three out of its last four matches, had a strong weekend last week, posting a 2-1 record overall at the Samford Bulldog Invitational to take second-place overall.
GWU's Emily Holte and Anna Pashkova were both named to the Samford Bulldog Invitational All-Tournament Team.
On Tuesday night, the Runnin' Bulldogs will wrap up a four-match road trip at Western Carolina in Cullowhee, N.C. at 6 p.m.
The Catamounts of WCU are 3-12 thus far this season, but are 2-1 at home. After starting the season off at 2-1 in its home tournament, the Catamounts have gone 1-10 away from the Ramsey Center. Western Carolina has lost four straight matches and is 1-2 thus far this season against Big South Conference foes with a 3-2 win over Campbell.
On Friday night, GWU kicks-off a four-match home stand against UNC Asheville in the two teams' Big South Conference opener at 7 p.m. on Friday night in Paul Porter Arena.
The Runnin' Bulldogs are 1-3 in Big South Conference openers with all three of those losses coming to UNC Asheville. GWU and UNC Asheville have opened up Big South Conference play against each other in each of the last three years.
The Bulldogs of UNC Asheville are 5-11 overall thus far this season. Asheville has lost four straight heading into Friday night's contest, as well as five of its last six matches.
Asheville, who was picked to finish fourth in the Big South Preseason Coaches' Poll this season, has wins over N.C. A&T and Western Carolina, yet also suffered a 3-1 loss at Charlotte last weekend.
