Men's Soccer to Host Appalachian State and VMI this Week on the Pitch
September 30, 2012 | Men's Soccer
Boiling Springs, N.C. - The Gardner-Webb men's soccer team's three-match home stand will continue this week, as the Runnin' Bulldogs will host Appalachian State on Tuesday night at 7 p.m. and then welcome the VMI Keydets on Saturday at 2 p.m. to Boiling Springs, N.C.
Gardner-Webb (0-8-1, 0-1-1) is off to a slow start this season and is still searching for its first win of the year.
GWU's 2012 start is the worst start to a season for the Runnin' Bulldogs since the 2007 team started the season off at 0-8-1 before posting its first win. However, three of the four losses have come to nationally ranked top-25 opponents thus far this season.
On Tuesday night, the Runnin' Bulldogs will continue its annual match up with the Appalachian State Mountaineers at 7 p.m.
GWU is 1-5-1 versus the Mountaineers all-time with its last and only win over Appalachian State coming back at home in 2005 (1-0 win.)
The Mountaineers have lost three straight matches entering Tuesday night's contest with all three losses coming on the road. Appalachian State, who is 1-0 versus the Big South this season, has posted wins over East Tennessee State, UNC Asheville, Richmond and Binghamton this year.
Heading into conference play once more this Saturday afternoon, as GWU will host VMI at 2 p.m., the Runnin' Bulldogs will be 0-1-1 in conference play.
GWU has started the Big South slate off slow over the last few years, starting 0-2 in 2011 and 0-1-1 this season.
The Runnin' Bulldogs are 4-2 all-time versus the Keydets and have won two straight matches over VMI. Last season, GWU defeated VMI, 2-1, for their first win on the road at VMI in Lexington, Va.
The Keydets, who have lost five straight since defeating George Washington back on September 7th, are 0-2 in conference play with losses to Longwood and Campbell. VMI will hit the road for two conference contests this week, as the Keydets will take on High Point on Wednesday night before heading to Boiling Springs, N.C. for Saturday afternoon's contest at Greene-Harbison Field.
Live stats for both home bouts will be available at www.gwusports.com, while both matches are also slated to be video streamed live over the Big South Network, presented by State Farm, and can be accessed at www.bigsouthsports.com.
