Charlotte, N.C. - Gardner-Webb libero Anna Pashkova has been chosen as the Big South Conference Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week for the second straight week and the second time this season, while fellow teammate Brianna Starr has been selected as the Crons Brand Big South Freshman of the Week, the League announced today.
Pashkova helped lead Gardner-Webb to a 2-1 record last week with 77 digs and 7.0 digs per set. She posted 17 digs in GWU's sweep of Davidson to start the week in the Runnin' Bulldogs 3-0 home win. In her next outing, Pashkova tallied 38 digs - the second highest total in the Conference this season - in a five-set win against Presbyterian College. Her 38 digs was not only a career-high, but it also ranked as the third most digs in a five-set match by a GWU player in the Runnin' Bulldogs Division I history. In the last match of the week, she registered 22 digs against Winthrop.
Starr recorded 41 kills, 3.73 kills per set, 33 digs, 3.0 digs per set and two blocks last week for Gardner-Webb. Against Davidson, Starr picked up a double-double with 16 kills and 13 digs while hitting .343 and adding two blocks. She earned her second consecutive double-double with 12 kills and 14 digs in the Runnin' Bulldogs' win over PC, and capped off the week with 13 kills and six digs against Winthrop. Starr has posted double digit kills over each of GWU's last five matches and has recorded six double-doubles on the season overall.
The award is Pashkova's second straight weekly honor and the second of her career, while Starr earns her first-ever conference weekly honor.
